Cofertility’s radical model for women: Freeze your eggs for free by donating half of them - Elsacat - Apr 17 2025 https://techcrunch.com/2025/04/12/cofertility-lets-women-freeze-their-eggs-for-free-through-its-donor-matching-program/ No thanks. Besides, what happens if the startup doesn't go the distance? Can the frozen eggs be transferred elsewhere? If so, how much will it cost? Because another facility isn't likely to honor some other company's "free" promise. It says a lot that there's enough of a need for egg donation that this startup has any market at all. Women who don't need the money don't want to put themselves through it. Well-off couples would rather outsource all of it - the fertilization, the gestation, the birth - and then claim the end product (baby), who will then likely be turned over to more outsourced labor to be raised. If allowed to continue, no way this doesn't eventually end up like dog breeding, in another generation or so. Then, imagine ads for humans bred for purposes like pro fighting, law enforcement, military, physical labor, sex labor. I'm thinking of the examples I've seen of pitbull breeders' ads on Facebook or Instagram. There's a great "Black Mirror" episode to be made if Charlie Brooker wants to tackle the subject. |
