Missouri voted to protect abortion rights, so state Republicans bait and switch with confusing ballot language - Chernobog - Apr 19 2025 https://www.stlpr.org/government-politics-issues/2025-04-17/missouri-house-passes-amendment-that-would-re-establish-a-state-abortion-ban I am absolutely reeling at the inclusion of "protect children from gender transition" because what the FUCK does that have to do with abortion? I really don't know who started it anymore: the republicans being the cretins they are, or whatever lobby was making sure someone was giving a speech at every rally making a bizarre and forceful (but completely unsubstantiated) declaration that transgender things (and always transwomen, never transmen!) are definitely 100% totally related to abortion access. I'm debating if it's worth it to hound them about pediatric transition being worthy of opposition completely on its own merits; the inclusion-confusion may very well be part of the slimy strategy here, but Missouri Republicans have recently been flirting with running more pro-choice candidates so the optimistic take is they're just seeing what spaghetti sticks to the wall. Tie this with the fact that: Quote:The resolution repeals nearly all of Amendment 3, which was passed by voters in November with 51.6% support. The abortion rights amendment passed by a small majority, Republicans are hoping that they can fully defeat abortion access by having people focus on the part about preventing transgender medical malpractice in children, and I'm worried this is going to be a successful strategy... Seriously, since every other point in the ballot language would already be true in the event of legalized abortion and this one is totally left field, I really have to suspect there's an angle. RE: Missouri voted to protect abortion rights, so state Republicans bait and switch wi... - Wrongtoy - Apr 20 2025 The Republican version of feminism is to recognize females as women who should want to welcome every pregnancy as an gift or at least obligation, because they’re women. Nancy Mace does this. Riley Gaines does this. Both Elon and Trump do this. Anti trans in itself is not feminism. RE: Missouri voted to protect abortion rights, so state Republicans bait and switch wi... - Elsacat - Apr 20 2025 Couldn't agree more. Anti-trans is not feminism and it's not gender criticism. If anything, it's gender-promoting. Get back in your CORRECT gender box, heathen! Republicans are not interested in the advancement or non-oppression of women as human beings. They are not fighting the trans fight to advance women's causes. They are very interested in the advancement of women within prescribed roles and subservient to men, with a nice veneer of religion on top because you don't want to make God mad, do you? This isn't just about what men want, no, it goes higher than that! Ultimate appeal-to-authority fallacy to keep the good church-goers in line. The Republican women who uphold all that are not feminists or crusaders for women. They are handmaidens at best, just like the TRA supporters. RE: Missouri voted to protect abortion rights, so state Republicans bait and switch wi... - Shroom - Apr 20 2025 Hear hear! It depresses me to no end the way the only two mainstream sides on this hate women, just in different ways, and we're forced to choose one of these "sides" to support. Really drives home how prevalent misogyny is. |
