American boys have become less supportive of gender equality - Clover - May 3 2025 David Waldron Substack, May 2 2025 https://blog.waldrn.com/p/american-boys-have-become-less-supportive Quote:The critically-acclaimed Netflix show, Adolescence, has stoked public conversation about the problem of misogyny and violence among school-aged boys. It’s been discussed in op-eds, on morning shows and by the British Prime Minister. Many commentators accept the show’s fictional portrayal of a 14-year-old boy’s descent into a misogynist online subculture as representative of real social trends. But until now, there’s been little hard evidence of this trend, leaving room for some to claim that concern about increasing sexism among boys is just a moral panic. Graphs are included. They are depressing. Discussion on r/dataisbeautiful RE: American boys have become less supportive of gender equality - Irinka8347 - May 4 2025 Faced with this data, what exactly can we do about these guys? They're going to be living with women for a long time yet... What are your predictions for how their female peers will react, as well? I'm pretty young myself, and planning on either being 4B or selecting for a daughter... I fear that we're not going to "educate" them out of this. The solutions we've tried in the past don't seem to have worked :(. Many times, technology has led the way with regard to major social reforms (e.g. birth control, agriculture if we're talking more generally). I proposed sex selective IVF because of this, but I think we need new plans. (That aside, I do wonder if this has to do with liberal feminists talking about how men are oppressed, too, and them just cherrypicking that from feminism to support their preexisting patriarchal entitlement. Men and boys were already pretty self-victimizing; now they get to cry when they rape and beat women. I think patriarchy put in a lot of patch fixes for issues with men (e.g. prison, corporal punishment in schools), and feminism removed them without putting equally or more effective measures in place.) (Also, why was this on r/dataisbeautiful? Sigh... We really need to shake things up, somehow... We can't let people like this control our lives. Hence 4B and sex selection... We really need to do something.) |
