Texas lawmakers propose abortion pill bill that can’t be challenged in state courts - Clover - May 20 2025 The Texas Tribune, May 12 2025 https://www.texastribune.org/2025/05/12/texas-abortion-pill-bill-state-court/ Quote:The bill contains many provisions legal experts say are likely unconstitutional, including one that says it can’t be challenged in state court. Quote:Senate Bill 2880, which passed the Senate last week, allows anyone who manufactures, distributes, mails, prescribes or provides an abortion-inducing drug to be sued for up to $100,000. It expands the wrongful death statute to encourage family members, especially men who believe their partner had an abortion, to sue up to six years after the event, and empowers the Texas Attorney General to bring lawsuits on behalf of “unborn children of residents of this state.” Discussion on r/auntienetwork RE: Texas lawmakers propose abortion pill bill that can’t be challenged in state courts - Wrongtoy - May 20 2025 This whole thing could have been avoided had Biden just urged cdc to promote the original use of misopristol, which is as an adjunct to high dose nsaids in pts with a risk of GI harm. Until the opioid epidemic, opioids were seen as the preferable risk, and now there’s nothing but huge doses of nsaids for most people. This drug could have been in every aunties cabinet by now. As far as safety, who has long had protocols for miso-only abortion. Based on the fact he is an old misogynistic Catholic man, I'm not surprised he didn't. I can totally see him giving basic surface-level lip service to abortion rights, if even that, because I recall his statement on why abortion is okay is not because it's a woman's right to her own body, it's because "most major world religions agreed that it's okay at a certain cutoff." He literally thinks old patriarchal fairy tales have more authority on what women can do with their bodies than the women themselves. I wouldn't put it past him to not bother with something like that, because not many US citizens might know that was ever a thing that could be done to protect abortion access. I didn't even know that was a thing that could be done. So it's extremely easy for him to just not do it, since he is part of a forced birth misogynistic patriarchal religion, and continue what the Democrats have been doing for a long time, which is using abortion as a carrot on a stick for elections.
