Israel is the face of mass femicide, not liberation - nassim - Jun 17 2025 Just a short substack post in response to all the rhetoric I'm seeing on the news and social media around liberating women in Iran and so on. https://nassimsahar.substack.com/p/israel-is-the-face-of-mass-femicide RE: Israel is the face of mass femicide, not liberation - OrangeBurrito - Jun 18 2025 This article while pointing out the plight of women in wartime (which unfortunately is commonplace in all situations of warfare, e.g. mass rape of German women at the end of WW2, the Rape of Nanking, Korean comfort women) does seem to overlook the fact of women's rights in all hyper-religious, monotheistic societies by mentioning only Orthodox Judaism (which should be discussed, especially in regards to its growing prevalence in Israeli society and what that means) To truly advocate for women's liberation is to allow for honest discussion of all outdated beliefs and societies, not just ones in the cultural zeitgeist. You need not trivialize the suffering of one group of women in order to justify a criticism of a regime, when both are lived realities. I find that many western citizens seem not to account for this, or are afraid to criticize other societies for fear of being called prejudiced. It results in arguments that seem to be missing the bigger picture or are at worst, disingenuous. RE: Israel is the face of mass femicide, not liberation - nassim - Jun 18 2025 First of all, I'm Iranian, and I don't shy away from criticizing any society, nor am I trivializing anyone's suffering. You're reading things that aren't there. RE: Israel is the face of mass femicide, not liberation - Chernobog - Jun 18 2025 The Dworkin quote reminds me of this, specifically how any ethnostate is inherently anti-feminist. I was nervous three years ago when there were billboards about "liberating the women of Iran", no affiliation, no organization name, everywhere all of a sudden, and I want to believe people have improved their critical thinking at least enough to be opposed to any "regime change" Israel has even a modicum of involvement in. We were fed up in 2001, too, but this cycle can't be endless. |
