Quote:The US supreme court has ruled that schools must give children the chance to opt out on faith grounds from listening to storybooks being read out loud that feature gay and transgender characters, in a landmark decision that will be seen as striking a blow for religious rights in education.

Quote:In the case, Mahmoud v Taylor, three sets of parents, comprising Muslims, Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians, complained that the board’s policy in effect forced their children to hear storylines that they alleged promoted “political ideologies about family life and human sexuality that are inconsistent with sound science, common sense, and the well-being of children”.

One book, Uncle Bobby’s Wedding, features a gay character who is getting married, while another, Born Ready: The True Story of a Boy Named Penelope, is about a transgender child.

Wasn't sure where to post. This is an unfortunate outcome of the LGB being force-teamed with the TQ. The complaint of "political ideologies [...] that are inconsistent with sound science, common sense, and the well-being of children" makes sense when schools are promoting gender ideology, but not when about sexuality.

I remember back when the sex education was limited mainly to pregnancy prevention. It was 1981 and a lady from planned parenthood came and dumped a king Soopers bag of the contraceptives available at that time. Which for me was highly effective alone.

Abortion wasn’t mentioned. Every 16 year old knew they could access one. The time to get to here’s clinic was approximately 27 minutes from where I lived in south Boulder on my bike. I never did need an abortion, but that was one of the facts I filed about it. The reason I did was that at the time I thought my parents wouldn’t have to know.

STDs weren’t mentioned. Here, a basic rundown of Std and how to avoid them would have been useful.

But still. I think this shit should be super basic.
