Much of femicide, even the kind that is clearly deliberate, is not about causing immediate death. It is about inflicting damage and distress in the hope that this will eventually lead to illness, suicide, or collapse. This is why many female suicides should be investigated more closely. We need to ask what part a man may have played in that outcome.
