[Split] Debates over Zahra Tabari's reason for execution and Global South geopolitics - Wrongtoy - Nov 19 2025 Iran’s top execution priorities tend to be those convicted of spying for Israel, especially around Iranian nuclear activity. Women protesting mandatory hijab have been increasingly left alone since they came out hijab less rooting for the ayatollah over Netanyahu. So it’s not about that. If she were a midwife who sold abortion cures, otoh, that would definitely make the authorities upset. RE: URGENT: A Matter of Life and Death - Clover - Nov 20 2025 I don't support the death penalty. A country that just recently and begrudgingly backpedaled on their misogynistic hijab laws doesn't earn my trust. This other article from PBS News states that “activists warn Iran often relies on coerced confessions and closed-door trials in its death penalty cases, particularly those involving Israel.” I don't care the reason why this woman is being sentenced to death, it is wrong. RE: URGENT: A Matter of Life and Death - Impress Polly - Nov 20 2025 (Nov 19 2025, 6:33 PM)Wrongtoy Iran’s top execution priorities tend to be those convicted of spying for Israel, especially around Iranian nuclear activity. Naturally you would cheerlead the Iranian clerical establishment in this situation. Pathetic. Get your head out of your woke ass! If your only point in visiting this message board is to continuously troll it up with a bunch of anti-feminist BS about how the women's movement has supposedly failed Islam then feel free to fuck off, poser! I don't even care if I'm breaking the stupid civility rules to say that to you at this point. This is what all your posts look like. They're a joke and deserve to be treated like one. RE: URGENT: A Matter of Life and Death - hatpin - Nov 21 2025 (Nov 20 2025, 10:09 PM)Clover I don't support the death penalty. Impress Polly, thanks for your most recent post. You were much more civil than I would have been. I've been at odds with that poster since /GC, and I just won't engage with them anymore. RE: URGENT: A Matter of Life and Death - LeftFem - Nov 21 2025 (Nov 19 2025, 6:33 PM)Wrongtoy Iran’s top execution priorities tend to be those convicted of spying for Israel, especially around Iranian nuclear activity. They know that executing a woman for not wearing a Hijab might create uproar, after the last time. But they're still hardcore extremists. They can't stand it. So what they do? Oh look at that EVIL WOMAN WITHOUT A HIJAB. SHE MUST BE AN ISRAELI AGENT! The idea that Israel has so many spies that are so easy to find for Iran yet Israel was able to get drones into Iran with zero issues is so absurd, it doesn't bother even thinking about. RE: URGENT: A Matter of Life and Death - Wrongtoy - Nov 21 2025 Iranian state media released video of non hijabi proudly cheering for the ayatollah and against Israel knowing that the footage would be broadcast throughout the Arab and Muslim world. Streetcam scenes look like it’s about half in half. The only female centered activity might be if the woman had been an abortionist, but you have heard little about that in the past. The biggest reason they announce executions is over spying and sabotage. RE: URGENT: A Matter of Life and Death - LeftFem - Nov 21 2025 (Nov 21 2025, 1:36 PM)Wrongtoy Iranian state media released video of non hijabi proudly cheering for the ayatollah and against Israel knowing that the footage would be broadcast throughout the Arab and Muslim world. Streetcam scenes look like it’s about half in half. You're being incredible naive. A theocratic state, in the wake of a war which was EXISTENTIAL, decided to temporarily ignore their more barbaric laws and show a united front. With the war at Israel being a major issue, Iranians of all types were united against Israel. That does not mean, once that existential issue is removed, that the same theocrats won't go after women. If you want an example, look no further than the Ayatollahs doing the same with the left: https://jacobin.com/2022/10/chahla-chafiq-iranian-left-khomeini-protests-feminism RE: URGENT: A Matter of Life and Death - Wrongtoy - Nov 21 2025 (Nov 21 2025, 2:52 PM)Oh, but LeftFem(Nov 21 2025, 1:36 PM)Wrongtoy Iranian state media released video of non hijabi proudly cheering for the ayatollah and against Israel knowing that the footage would be broadcast throughout the Arab and Muslim world. Streetcam scenes look like it’s about half in half. Oh but the threat of Israel totally remains not only existential, but apart. And disputes over women and their headscarves is a fetish among resident Zionists who obviously permeate WoLF vs filia. Syria is literally run by ex Isis now but they’re playing nice with Israel so you hear little about their human eights transgressions. I suspect strongly that what this woman is accused of isn’t hijab related or even feminist related. RE: URGENT: A Matter of Life and Death - LeftFem - Nov 21 2025 (Nov 21 2025, 3:41 PM)Wrongtoy(Nov 21 2025, 2:52 PM)Oh, but LeftFem(Nov 21 2025, 1:36 PM)Wrongtoy Iranian state media released video of non hijabi proudly cheering for the ayatollah and against Israel knowing that the footage would be broadcast throughout the Arab and Muslim world. Streetcam scenes look like it’s about half in half. I decided to search the site for "Israel" and "Gaza", Israel is mentioned twice, once about the Nordic Model and once in this article saying she was arrested after the war. Gaza is never mentioned. What Zionist residents are you talking about on that site? And if you mean this one, I don't think we have any here.... Syria is run by exactly what you say but weirdly enough, they are not doing what Iran is doing or what Afghanistan has done. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/12/30/maysaa-sabrine-becomes-first-syrian-woman-to-lead-central-bank Far be it from me to defend the man, but it's obvious he's not doing what the Iran government is doing to women or what Afghanistan are doing. You strongly suspect what this woman is accused of is not Hijab related. Fine, let's google it, and see. She's been arrested for being part of some group called PMOI. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Mojahedin_Organization_of_Iran It's a political group that is currently operating out of Albania that believes in women's rights and class struggle. Such an evil Zionist this woman must be really RE: URGENT: A Matter of Life and Death - Kozlik - Nov 21 2025 Well. I guess it's time to Be A Mod™. The initial interaction between WrongToy and Impress Polly is a perfect instance of why I cannot stand "rule-lawyer robot" style modding. If we just went off the forum rules verbatim, Polly would be the only one technically/literally in the "wrong." But, since I don't like rigidly enforced "rule-lawyer robot modding"... The issue I see here is a long-standing trend of one user periodically derailing threads with low effort comments that annoy other users, commonly ending up with various users getting frustrated and upset by the derailment and, often times, dismissive nature of the topic being discussed in the thread. I find this somewhat similar to the spiral of unfruitful discussions on Vexxed/Ovarit I've observed, where shitposting regulars can continuously post a dripfeed of ragebait that causes other users to "lose their shit", and then the "other users" are the ones who get in trouble. I'm not interested in encouraging that spiral of trashposting culture. @WrongToy: this isn't the first time you've derailed threads on the forum, often by minimizing some forms of misogyny. Truthfully, I don't think your initial post in this thread was your "worst" offending post in regards to potential derailing, but I think this is now "2 for 2" on you responding to "calls for actions" on trying to help female people in some way by dismissing/derailing the call to action. The first one was regarding poo-pooing women's efforts to teach English and career skills to women in Afghanistan, where mod action was taken to split your derailing comments into a different thread. In addition to this, I recall instances of taking criticism of beauty culture and internalized misogyny personally and various slights against women who criticize countries that enforce misogynistic hijab laws and minimizing said misogyny, or slights against Western women volunteering in education programs for Afghani women. [1: "I’m done with their orientalist perspective on how the only thing that matters is the headgear Muslim women wear. Which is always anti feminist according to them.", 2: "But no, this is all about SCARF liberation.", 3: further later comments in that thread continuing to put misogynistic hijab laws vs. Palestinian humanitarian aide crisis in an artificial dichotomy, 4: "The cute little flyers contests urging white western women to mentor teenage girls in English is atrociously dangerous to said girls.", 5: Whatever this comment was, encouragement of reenacting a Handmaid's Tale in Afghanistan..?, 6: more... encouragement of reenacting a Handmaid's Tale in Afghanistan..?] Which you have since done again in this thread with your later comments with LeftFem, seemingly minimizing the fact this Iranian woman is on death row because... Israeli spies, Israel bad, Zionists...? You don't need to shoehorn these topics into every single thread. TL;DR - Right now, in my mod perspective, you are on thin ice. Not because of just this thread, but because of the overall behaviors listed above; derailing threads and minimizing/dismissing feminist issues that other members find important in favor of prioritizing your own. Continuing the aforementioned behaviors shall result in membership revocation. @Impress Polly: well... you know your post breaks the forum rules. 🫠 I do sympathize with getting tired of derailments/low effort content. So... spiderman-everybody-gets-one.mov @everyone: I will say I generally don't want to encourage a culture of insults/personal attacks/etc. on this forum, but... eh. I don't have all the answers. I'm a biased human being; I don't know how to mod "perfectly," if such a thing even exists. I'm aware of that when making this call. As of this moment, I'm more in favor of calling out derailing content/demoralizing behaviors over "rule-lawyering" about civility. That being said, for any member reading, please don't use this judgment call as an endorsement to break civility rules to bludgeon people in the future, please still attempt to use good faith, especially if the member is new and does not have a comment history where you have had to continually repeat to yourself "assume good faith, assume good faith" before engaging. I would still prefer we try to handle these situations diplomatically. Admittedly, I don't know the best way to do that right now. Forum rules enforcement is essentially vibes-based in favor of whatever promotes constructive discourse and helps increase fruitful engagement. (As a reminder/tip: the Meta forum is available to create discussions on forum culture, forum rules/guidelines, forum rules enforcement, thoughts/feedback/suggestions on moderation practices, am I modding "too much" or "too little", am I too biased in one direction or another, etc. if anyone is ever interested in discussing topics like this any further.) I'm not splitting this thread yet to move the derailed part of the discussion into another one as of yet, unless either the derailment continues or if people would prefer it be done anyways to let the thread refocus on female political activist Zahra Tabari being at risk of execution by the Iranian government and what people can possibly do to stop it. @LeftFem: Thank you for trying to bring back the discussion to Zahra Tabari. |
