RE: Poor Things and Misogynistic Dreams: How Abusers Sexually Mistreat Disabled Women - Calliope - Oct 27 2024 I haven't seen Poor Things or read the book, but hearing the premise, that a man resurrected the body of his deceased wife using the brain of their newborn child, icked me out so badly. I do like a lot of Yorgos Lanthimos' films though. I think he does satire really well, so I was thinking about giving it a chance. And "artsy" directors seem to be the worst of the bunch because they can get away with anything under the guise of "art", no matter how self-serving (and, being men, esp men with any social clout, they still think androcentrism and male horniness/violence are a given, and very deep and poetic). |
