Quote:Last night, in a monumental first for women, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. signed into law the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Location Act, which authorizes the first and only monument dedicated to American women’s history to be built on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

President Biden Yesterday, I was proud to sign into law the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Location Act, authorizing the placement of a monument honoring the women’s suffrage movement on the National Mall. In addition to commemorating the ratification of the 19th Amendment, the Women’s Suffrage National Monument will recognize the generations of women who fought to ensure an equal voice for women in our democracy and honor the leaders who fought for the enfranchisement of all women long after the 19th Amendment was ratified.

I hope to visit one day, once it's built!

Depressing question, though: is it possible for this authorization to be taken away in the next four years? 😶

I was wondering the same thing about taking away authorization. I feel like the US is going to be on this seesaw where things are done and undone according to the whims of the person and party in power. To an extent any government works that way, but it's usually a much longer, slower process, not the whiplash I'm expecting in the future.

Valid concern. I'd like to think that there would be way too much bad PR if they tried to do that. In addition it seems like Melania Trump is on the board for this, along with other former first ladies.

Melania Trump One of my fondest memories as First Lady was commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment in the White House and ensuring the diverse and moving stories of women’s fight for the right to vote were taught and told. It was a privilege to join President Trump in the Oval Office when he signed the legislation authorizing this vital and overdue monument and to lead the 19th Amendment Project, which called on young Americans to celebrate 100 years of Women’s Suffrage through artwork. I am honored to support the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation to secure a monument of enduring inspiration for women and future female leaders.

Clover, thank you so much for the source! 😔I get that they're just doing it for the optics and PR, but, well... If they don't try to rescind the authorization, then the monument will still be built in the end.
