Japan to halt funding for a UN women's rights panel over call to end male-only imperial succession - Puffin - Feb 7 2025 https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/japan-halt-funding-womens-rights-panel-call-end-118223913 Quote:Japan is to freeze voluntary funding for a United Nations’ women’s rights panel over its recommendation that Japan’s male-only imperial succession rule should be revised from gender-equality perspectives. RE: Japan to halt funding for a UN women's rights panel over call to end male-only imp... - Clover - Feb 7 2025 Fucking losers. Typical neoliberal male "allies". They "support women" up until women ask men to give up their power. Then suddenly their material supports to women, which are important in the capitalist system, suddenly get revoked. Shows you where the true power is, and where their true priorities lie. Perfect example of the intertwined nature of capitalism and patriarchy. They already rely on women for this so it's so insulting to say they want to carry on the succession without "relying on women." RE: Japan to halt funding for a UN women's rights panel over call to end male-only imp... - komorebi - Feb 7 2025 Thanks for sharing, Puffin! Urgggh, there's a long history behind all of this. Masako, a former diplomat who studied at Harvard, Tokyo U, and Oxford, married the former Crown Prince and she's now empress of Japan. They had a daughter in 2001, which sparked a whole debate about succession. Because of that, for a couple of years, some politicians were interested in making it so that women could succeed the throne. However, the crown prince's brother and his wife had a son in 2006, and after that the debate stalled. Furthermore, the pressure on Masako to have a male heir and her treatment in the media gave the poor woman a fucking nervous breakdown. I'm so livid that this brilliant and accomplished woman married into some stupid royal family and got abused until she developed a mental disorder. 🤬 (Note: this is just my basic understanding of the sitch; let me know if I've gotten anything wrong!) There, problem solved… ShameMustChangeSides Oh please, ANYTHING but crediting women while still relying on their compliance and their wombs to carry on this ridiculous penis tradition! They already rely on women for this so it's so insulting to say they want to carry on the succession without "relying on women." OMG, 💯. They should just stop relying on women completely. Let’s see how long their “dynasty” lasts. komorebi Urgggh, there's a long history behind all of this. It’s caused her such significant mental distress that she’s had to withdraw from public appearances multiple times. I thought the British royal family was awful, but Japan’s imperial family makes them sounds like a dream. Another fun fact: the prohibition on women succeeding to the throne is a relatively modern invention and Japan had in fact had multiple empresses regnant in the time before the Meiji Era. So by permitting female succession, they would just be returning to their ancestral traditions 🤷♀️ |
