Beyond fucked up. As is mentioned in the article, why would our country claim to accept asylum seekers just to put them through this? It's already akin to a concentration camp. Ill be finding resources on how to help the people trapped in these horrifying detention centers.

I love that the department of education is a misuse of government funds but paying private prisons to detain people unnecessarily is fine. The woman in the article was willing and able to pay for a plane ticket home but instead of putting her on a flight ASAP they spent thousands of taxpayer dollars torturing her.
