Feminist, gender critical, and/or woman-centered online communities - Clover - Mar 23 2025 Collecting some inspired by this thread, since Ovarit is closing soon: https://ovarit.com/o/GenderCritical/676534/a-few-alternatives-to-ovarit Update: an Ovarit member made a "masterpost" of more communities: https://ovarit.com/o/Ovarit/682837/masterpost-of-discord-servers-substacks-communities-to-join-after-ovarit-closes Update 2: OrangeBurrito's WomensWiki has a collection of women's online communities: https://womenswiki.org/wiki/Online_Communities vexxed.org
RE: Feminist, gender critical, and/or woman-centered online communities - Myrth - Apr 19 2025 I always had some notion that Tumbler was bad in some way. I guess I will have to take a peak to find out about radblr. Thank you for this list. And, by the way, Substack is fantastic!! RE: Feminist, gender critical, and/or woman-centered online communities - VerdantHorizon - Apr 19 2025 I haven't used Tumblr in a decade or more, but I'm shocked there's a radfem side existing in it. The types of people I remember interacting with were the type to really not tolerate radfemmery. RE: Feminist, gender critical, and/or woman-centered online communities - wendy - Apr 20 2025 What do you think about the forums created at cekni.to? The access information is found on Ovarit. My first interactions clashed with someone that seems to be from the later group of women who joined that only wanted to criticize trans ideology and bring in some insidious, "antiwoke" ideology that does not benefit minorities or women in general.. I think they can post their views wherever they are welcome. If that is cekni, then I will be sure to direct any women who apply here that aren't a good fit to there. Wrongtoy also runs saidit's s/GenderCritical which she runs as more "free speech"-y and I think those kinds of places are good, in the sense it allows places for "controversial" viewpoints to actually be seen instead of cast away to grow in the dark. Otherwise people are wholly unprepared to deal with their rhetoric should it become "mainstream." Personally, I realized I was wholly uninterested with spending my free time arguing with conservative/anti-trans women on the internet and instead wanted to see what discussions would be like in a place consisting of women who are, I guess I would stay "dedicated" to feminist causes, so I made clovenhooves. I do need to add cekni to my OP, I just don't have a good list of all the communities on there that spun off from the Ovarit shutdown news yet. I’m wary of cekni.to, but only because it doesn’t appear to be in English, and I’d prefer not to rely on translation. RE: Feminist, gender critical, and/or woman-centered online communities - Wrongtoy - Apr 21 2025 Jfc, I wrote a whole essay on this and it disappeared. https://saidit.net/s/GenderCritical/comments/gkq9/assessment_of_ovarit_alternatives/ The summary The main complaint about clovenhooves is that it is “too left wing.” This site wouldn’t be my personal preferred destination to Stan for Nancy Mace, even if I truly thought she was feminist vs personally believing that she’s a figurehead for the “let’s define women as they are meaning they should be grateful for every pregnancy” type of horseshit. While there can be no women’s rights without defining what a woman is, by no means are rights guaranteed just bc u do. With Cekni., apparently a man tasked with admining a Slovak language site dedicated primarily to film and the arts recruited on ovarit saying they could set up private English language subs. They are sharing a user base of a hundred or two users with no foreseeable recruitment inlet. The moderation process is oblique. As someone else observed, my bias is for free speech. We could use more perspectives on how Nancy Mace and Riley Gaines are not feminists by radfem definitions, for example. And as long as women are debating in good faith even given different perspectives, the more we can learn. RE: Feminist, gender critical, and/or woman-centered online communities - eyeswideopen - Apr 21 2025 I just have zero interest in participating in forums on a site that is ultimately run and controlled by a man (cekni, and presumably saidit). I also have zero interest in discussing radical feminism and criticism of gender and the patriarchy on a website where people promote wildly conspiratorial and imagined right-wing propaganda (saidit). So I'm very grateful this place exists. RE: Feminist, gender critical, and/or woman-centered online communities - Elsacat - Apr 21 2025 I signed up for a couple of the cekni.to circles, but I haven't been active there. I'll take a deeper look at some point, but for now Clovenhooves has been just fine for my discussion/interaction needs around feminism and gender criticism. RE: Feminist, gender critical, and/or woman-centered online communities - Wrongtoy - Apr 21 2025 Clover, most prominent Cekni circles have closed to additional membership. |
