I don't know any of her music but I'll give her a listen. I like this part of her quote too: "The easiest way to write a bad song is to try to write a hit. Write the opposite of what you think a hit is. Write what speaks to you, write something that only you can write. Write the music you want to listen to yourself." Given how many hits are actually bad songs, I think she's on to something there.

(Dec 10 2025, 6:36 PM)Elsacat I don't know any of her music but I'll give her a listen.

She's the pop star who "recently" (feels like forever ago in pop culture news) was discussed on here due to her misogynistic album name and cover art "Man's Best Friend".

She was blasted repetitively over the radio a few years ago with her hit Espresso. I found it annoying. The next highly repeated song of hers on the radio was Please Please Please, which I did find catchy and the lyrics were pretty amusing, so I ended up liking that one. I might recommend giving that one a listen.

I have no idea about the rest of her songs. Please Please Please felt kind of like self-deprecating humor of a woman knowing her boyfriend is trash and she keeps picking trash boyfriends and feeling embarrassed about being with him around others. I never followed up on Man's Best Friend upon its release after the album cover controversy, so I'm not sure if it's more of the "self-deprecating straight woman" type of lyrics or like, anything more unique or clever than that.

Oh yeah, I know who she is, I just have never listened to any of her songs. Not even "Espresso." I don't think I've ever actually heard any of her music. Same with Olivia Rodrigo or Gracie Abrams, or some other currently popular artists.

Her last album Short n’Sweet was one of the best pop album of 2024 ! (And 2024 was a very strong year for pop).

I was so grossed out by the cover of her new album that I haven’t listened to it. And the fact that when people had legitimate issues with it, her answer was basically “lol y’all are a bunch of prudes”, totally missing the point of why so many women found it disappointing (and disgusting).
