Hi! I have been wondering... is there a subforum here for South Asia? I have a bunch of articles that I have been wanting to post about India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal! I am assuming that the articles about Afghanistan and Indonesia would go in the Southeast Asia subforum, right? (Please correct if I'm wrong!)

I'm also wondering if eventually for each of the different continent forums, if a subforum for the diaspora (the women from those countries/continents who live outside their continents, such as in the West as well as the women descended from immigrants from those countries) could be made? I feel like it might help me a lot while recruiting new members from the Global South to be able to share with each of them, which forum spaces that they can congregate on to find likeminded women with common backgrounds to chat with! (For example in the Asia forum, maybe having subforums for the Southeast Asian, diaspora, East Asian diaspora, and South Asian diaspora, and with the Africa forum, having subforums for African diaspora as well as maybe a separate forum for Black American women — and maybe more specific country forums for Africa (or a way for members to be able make a new country subforum every time we have a specific article for a country that doesn't having an existing forum yet? Like if I start by recruiting feminists from Kenya and then Cameroon, and then South africa, etc, then we can slowly add new country subforums and more easily share relevant articles for women that way?) since I noticed on reddit that it's been easier sometimes to find feminists on their specific country forums, in regards to African feminists. And similarly in the Middle East subforum, maybe we can have country subforums to be added as feminist women from those countries join and want to start posting articles about their countries, as well as a forum for the Middle Eastern diaspora women? (And similarly, for the European countries and South American countries as well, to have subforums for some of them? Especially maybe having specific country subforums for UK, Canada, Australia, and US to start with, since we probably have the most members from these countries! I would really love to be able to hear more from non-American women in general, so I feel like giving them more spaces that they know that are their own to chat in and share articles about their countries will help them feel encouraged to post more here!)

No worries at all though if my idea is maybe too complicated to implement, since I get that having subforums for each country can get overwhelming and maybe won't necessarily be guaranteed to always be active enough! I just figured that maybe it would help feminists from specific countries to find each other easier! I wasn't really sure if this was a feasible or reasonable idea to suggest tbh on a site eith forum formats since I figured it's more complicated than just creating like a "circle" or "subreddit"!

Sorry for getting off-topic though lol. My main question was about how to locate the South Asia subforum, or if one can be made if it doesn't exist yet? I think that I can definitely at least commit to sharing articles for all the different South Asian country subforums and searching for feminist-oriented site members to recruit frok reddit and elsewhere! Thanks so much for considering my question, and no rush to respond! ♥️ My question isn't urgent at all haha; I was wondering this ever since I joined here tbh lol. (Hope I'm asking this question in the right place! 🙏)

Hi dobby! There is currently no South Asia forum -- I did make an East Asia and Southeast Asia one but I guess that's where I stopped lol.

I initially created some "big continent" forums for the Women of the World Unite (WotWU) category, and then my plan was to create more detailed forums for regions/countries as content started to fill up. So for example, that's why I eventually made "United States" and "United Kingdom" forums since I saw a decent amount of US- and UK-specific organizations/events/etc.

I also added the "Middle East & Arab Region" since there was discussion around Afghanistan, Iran, Palestine and such.

Now tbh, I'm pretty shit at geopolitics and geography, so I might be making these forums in a weird way, so feel free to make suggestions on how better to structure it.

I'd be basing the subsections of Asia based on this article -- does that seem correct?

I can add a South Asia now. :) Also, as a note on how I envisioned this section to run, the WotWU section is to help connect women in those specific geographic regions -- so the tags for articles here are things like "Organization," "Event," and "Take Action," so women can find feminist groups and events near them.

So for example, if you have an article about violence against women in South Asia, that might be better to go in the "Violence Against Women" forum, where we document all instances of violence against women. And if you have an article about a South Asian organization that helps educate about violence against women, that'd be a good fit for the "Asia" forum (or "South Asia" forum, when I create it in a bit) of WotWU.

Members cannot make their own forums as that's an admin ability, but I'm happy to keep making forums as more and more organizations/events/etc. get posted for various regions. And yeah, they can definitely get as detailed as "country" level if there's enough content/users who are from that country.

My general viewpoint towards making new forums is: is there a demand for it (users wanting it); and is there proof of demand for it (users posting things that would be better fitted for a newer/more detailed forum)?

Yeah, agreed. I hadn't considered women using the WotWU forums to chat amongst themselves lol, but they certainly can be used for that. (I guess might kinda go slightly contrary to what I mentioned earlier about how like, a VAWG article for a region could be posted about in the VAWG forum rather than the WotWU section, but honestly, I'm not picky about where members want to post things. [As a side note, I really wish there was a "crosspost" functionality where we could share the same post in multiple different forums lol, that would help with this case.])

On a slightly related note to that, we also have the specific "Community" subforums in the Community section of the forum -- those sections are only for women who fit those particular communities, and this might also be a good place to let women chat freely amongst themselves. I don't have a formal process to create community subforums yet, I generally just added them as they are requested/suggested. My thought is I could make more community forums for women if there is 1. an initial request for one and the requester is part of said community and 2. someone else who is also part of said community seconds the request. Then I know there's at least two people who would be willing to talk with each other in such a forum lol.
