(Feb 19 2025, 3:25 PM)Colibri Trump just called himself a king, and then the White House account repeated it.
Jesus fucking Christ.

I'm probably being too optimistic but my current copium is that this over the top comic book supervillain act will blow up in his face. Conspiracy theory types, constitutionalists, etc may hopefully have a trigger response to the word "king" and the fact that an unelected South African (immigrant!!) billionaire is letting his kid pick his nose in the white house. Same with his obvious Putin ass kissing, maybe it'll activate the dormant boomer cold war paranoia and cause some rightwing infighting.

Steve Bannon just did the Hitler salute at the CPAC... Absolute madness.

Edit: I also just want to say that I'm scared for real this time. I'm in the EU and I'm terrified of what this absolute insanity that's happening in the US is going to do to world peace, peace in Europe, and balance of power in the world. I also feel really sorry for scared, angry and worried Americans.

There're no words for how insane and destructive all of this is, on so many fronts. These few weeks of Trump already feel like decades.

I really feel like reality is coming apart at the seams, and I am not given to hyperbole, or fantasy. I know it is by design, but
I am certainly not processing the effects. I have very few people to talk to, no people who I can talk to about my feelings. I live among people who are loving this.

I don't enjoy unproductive emotions, but I am just so sad. I haven't wept so much since someone I loved died.
I can't take pleasure in others' suffering, even if they voted for him, even though I wanted to.

I need to get angry, productively angry. I am sure I will have no trouble with this, once I can process anything about any of this.
I have studied history, and this is nothing like any recorded history, as our natural world and climate are worsening. Is this why it feels like a fire sale? A last greed grab?

They forgot the detail in the Myth of Pandora: hope is a single salt grain we must guard and share, and some greedy bastard would let it melt into his hand, just to take away from all of us.

I wanted to write a supportive post to @hatpin because I understand how disheartening this all is :catcry: BUT IT'S TIME TO ADD MORE SHIT ON THE SHIT PILE. (And I have a collection of some other news links I need to post that I've been too tired/demoralized to bother with.)

Feb 25 2025: White House Moves to Pick the Pool Reporters Who Cover Trump
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/25/business/media/trump-white-house-press.html
Quote:The Trump administration said on Tuesday that it would start handpicking which media outlets were allowed to participate in the presidential press pool, the small, rotating group of reporters who relay the president’s day-to-day activities to the public.

The change breaks decades of precedent. It allows the White House to assert more control over which journalists can witness his activities up-close and ask him questions.

The White House Correspondents’ Association, a 111-year-old group representing journalists who cover the administration, has long determined on its own which reporters would participate in the daily pool.

Let's trust the corrupt right-wing government to handpick which reporters cover the Trump administration. Sounds totally fine.

Appreciate the thought, sister. I apologize for laying those comments here, I was having a despair day. I've done what women always have done, and picked myself up, choosing to go on.

What an epic disappointment this all is, because it didn't have to be this way, but it be this way.

You don't need to apologize @hatpin, I (and many, many others) feel the same way. It's more than understandable to feel this way and want to share it, especially when you feel so alone. I wish I had more to say or give you hope but we're all locked in the same sinking boat together unfortunately. You really said it best:
