Quote:Over the past few months, millions of people across the country have poured into the streets to protest the Trump administration, thanks to the organizing efforts of groups like Hands Off and 50501. Sometimes they focus on specific government policies targeting immigrants, tariffs, trans people, and DOGE cuts, but they’re broadly all pro-democracy demonstrations that started with the ā€œPeople’s Marchā€ before Trump’s second inauguration in January.

In previous years, I would have been right there with them, but not this time around. Instead, I smile and wave at the protesters, sometimes raising a fist in solidarity, then I carry on with my day. When I read about them—or the administration’s plummeting approval ratings—I feel strangely unmoved.

Quote:The 92 Percent Movement is about Black women taking time for ourselves even during this political crisis, or maybe especially during it. Some have wondered why more Black people aren’t showing at this iteration of anti-Trump rallies. Well, we’re taking a breather, or maybe we’re just sitting this one out altogether. It seems like an inopportune time to be a political wallflower, but it’s not so easy to bounce back from what happened on Nov. 5. We’ve turned inward, drawing support from other Black women, reminding each other of our worth and protecting our mental health. It’s still true what Malcolm X said about Black women being the most disrespected and unprotected in America, so we look out for each other. That’s what Michelle Obama did when she decided to skip Trump’s inauguration and even Jimmy Carter’s funeral, where she would have been seated next to Trump. Nope, not doing it this time.

I just don't think it's safe for POC, female or male, to participate in any anti-Trump protest, although of course they should if they feel moved to do so. ICE and their police helpers are just kidnapping and imprisoning people even if they know they are citizens, and anything that sets you apart from the white majority makes you an automatic target.

This latest kidnapping in Massachusetts was particularly awful - glad to see so many people tried to stop it but I'm so sorry that the police helped ICE to get away with their crimes:

As a black woman myself, I pulled back from politics in 2016 when rumpT was elected the first time. So, while I guess I appreciate the company in no-fucks-to-give land, I wonder what made this election so different from the last time for everyone else.

Almost all black women voted for Harris. I can imagine why they have this feeling/attitude, because why would they? They didn't create this mess and they shouldn't face danger from out-of-control police for a country that spits on them. Good for them, I think. It'd b beating their head against a wall while people'd still keep voting for white supremacy and patriarchy, they have better ways to spend their time and energy especially as this administration is already pushing a lot of people worldwide and in the US into survival mode.

Not an American, but I always hear Americans speak highly and proudly of the rule of law, democracy, their constitution, how they're against ''socialism'', how their government and democracy is so much better than countries that have a tinpot dictator... Oh how more advanced they are, how deep their understanding of the meaning of democracy and freedom! And now Trump and his associates are breaking laws left and right and suddenly it's okay?

As long as Trump and his administration and Republicans do it, yep, it's okay. This goes beyond political affiliation and into cult think.

I appreciate the article. We are not a monolith: I am still out protesting, even in my small town.

I don't blame sisters who don't though. I don't have much left to lose.
