At first I was surprised he was found guilty, then I read this line:

Quote:Depardieu also argued before the court that he did not consider placing a hand on a person’s bottom to be sexual assault

Talk about incriminating yourself. Lol.

Quote:“I adore women and femininity,” he also said, describing the Me Too movement as a “reign of terror”.

Yeah, consequences sure are terrifying when you've never had to face them before. Jackass.

This reminds me of a gay male friend I had in Switzerland. He was very misogynistic (we ended our friendship some years later). Anyway, a mutual friend called him out on something, and she illustrated what she was talking about by reminding him of things he had said. He told me that this friend engaged in "linguistic terrorism"–just for remembering what he had said and confronting him about it.

It's so telling that rapists and sexual abusers can claim to "love women" (and femininity, but I guess that's just being redundant to these men) while hurting, terrorising and silencing them. It really shows how, to men, women are not human beings, and "loving them" does not actually mean giving a damn about how they feel or what they want. Women are a fantastical concept in the larger horny male thought, of which real women are merely the closest real life equivalent. So ofc you don't have to listen to them, and can just use them to bond with other men over how relatably misogynistic and exploitative you all are. And if women take issue with the paradoxical things you're saying about their own bodies and self-interests and sex, well, that's just women. Why would women even be listened to when it comes to women? Men own the concept, after all. It's just and abstract, sexy idea to them.

Imagine if a woman said "I love men and masculinity!" - she would obviously be the type to suck up to men and prioritise their interests. When men say they love women, it's the exact opposite. It's like if a woman who claimed she loves men went around kicking them in the balls and proclaiming female supremacy.

I refuse to debate two obvious facts: 1. the patriarchy exists 2. and that's a bad thing

Exactly, they don't love real women, they love the patriarchal concept of a woman — a hyper-feminine submissive sex toy with no desires or autonomy of their own that they can use as they please.

It's disgusting that he was able to do this to so many women and for so long, but not at all surprising in the film industry. If there were 20 women who came forward, imagine how many more were too afraid to speak up. The worst part for me is the double standard in the industry and media. Men can be full on rapists, abusers, pedophiles, etc. and still have a career and legions of fans defending and celebrating them no matter what, like Johnny Depp, Roman Polanski, Woody Allen, Brad Pitt. Meanwhile if you're a woman being unlikeable/annoying/outspoken is enough to earn vitriolic hate and cancellation.
