If you aren't already following Jessica Valenti, please start - she's doing essential work on the war against women and our reproductive freedom right now. Her latest story is about a woman in Texas who was jailed for five months for a miscarriage in a public restroom. She was released without charges after all that time in jail because the state prosecutors determined they didn't have any evidence to file charges against her. (In a particularly disgusting move, the miscarriage remains were released to a "crisis pregnancy center" who named the remains and gave them a public funeral).

Five months of this woman's life in prison for nothing more than the "crime" of her body performing a natural and common process. She has almost certainly lost her job at the very least, ignoring all other harms she has suffered.

Please stop voting for Republicans, even if you like their stance on gender ideology. It's not worth the cost.

We don't have reactions yet, so take my imaginary upvote.

I don't like men thinking they can be women, intruding into women's spaces, entering women's sports. But in this case, men are literally controlling women's bodies, bodily integrity, and agency. Prison for a miscarriage and no right to determine what happens to the remains of the fetus that was lost? Brain-dead women forced to stay hooked up to machines to gestate a fetus that probably won't be born alive, and if it is, it's very likely to die afterward, and the family has to endure and pay for all this? It's clear to me which option is a bigger violation of, and to, women.

This is my position as well. Women are dying, being jailed, and becoming infertile because of the repeal of Roe v Wade and the abortion bans being implemented by GOP state legislatures. The harm of gender ideology is real, but it's not as bad as what is happening on the reproductive rights front.

The Biden admin could have made misoprostol as ubiquitous as the super size pill bottles of prescription ibuprofen and relafen in most older people’s bathrooms. The original use of miso is to prevent gi ulcers from nsaids, which many old ppl are taking max dosages of now that few get opiates. Had this been done, the drug would have been as difficult to ban as relafen.

They didn’t even think about it after losing roe. They were busy putting transvestites first. Because in fact, most were fine with having abortion state by state.

The states that are insisting women give birth are exactly the ones who will have to pay for the consequence.

In the Georgia case, the father and existing child deserve not to go bankrupt over the insane quest to keep a brain dead woman on life support as an incubator.

Some cases are truly hopeless. When my sister was in obgyn residency 30 years ago, she delivered a baby with cyclops syndrome. ,its brain was not differentiated between halves. On its forehead were a giant unseeing eye and an elephantine probscosis. There was a hole where a mouth should have been.

Mom had assumed this would be a stillbirth. She initially declined to see the baby, and when she did, she cried. It died, soon afterward.
