Quote:Five days ago, the Trump administration revoked federal guidance from the Department of Health and Human Services that had required hospitals to perform emergency abortions when the procedure is necessary to save a woman’s life or prevent serious complications—even in states with strict bans. The directive had been based on EMTALA, a federal law guaranteeing emergency care for all patients, but the White House has now decided not to apply that standard to pregnant women facing health risks.

Against this backdrop, a new Gallup poll published yesterday shows a record gender gap in views on abortion rights: women are increasingly identifying as pro-choice, while support for legal abortion among men is falling to its lowest point in decades.

I liked the first 3/4 of this Reddit comment:
god_is_a_w0man Abortion rights are the very root of female freedom and women’s ability to keep control of their own lives out of men’s hands

And childbirth is the root of all patriarchy. They need to control reproduction because women won’t willingly have as many babies as patriarchy needs to sustain itself

So no. As men lose their control on women, as patriarchy loses its slave numbers, and as women start to more and more gain independence, the average will not support abortion rights.

Patriarchy enslaves men, but throughout history no male group has risen to challenge it because they like getting laid more than they like their own freedom.

One comment said "When it affects themselves is when they’ll sit up and take notice." but like...it already affects them? The same men wailing about how women trap them with babies (and marriage) are also denying women abortion (and no-fault divorce). Like, you'd think every guy talking about how yucky parental responsibility is compared to just no-strings attached sex and money spent on themseleves would be running t the streets and begging for abortion rights. Not even because they'd give a shit about their female partner's health and freedom (which we statistically see that men don't), but literally because it'd benefit them personally. The fact that men would rather fuck themselves over in order to sabotage women's rights shows just how deep their hatred for us goes.

Also someone said contraception only became legal in the 90's and lord do I hate it when people act like it's a given that women would be perpetually pregnant just so men could engage in their obsession with penetrative sex, even when it hurts women and ruins their lives. There are plenty of ways to have sex that don't result in pregnancy which are more pleasurable for women given that our clits are external, but again, men consistently prove they don't give a shit about women's health and well-being so I guess any straight couple that doesn't have access to birth control simply must turn the woman into a perpetual baby-making machine 🤷‍♂️

More women are currently deciding to prioritise their ambitions and friendships over sexual relationships with men, so I wouldn't be surprised if that has something to do with the dwindling support of men. If they're not reaping the benefits (i.e. sex) anymore, they probably no longer see the point of it.

A bit off-topic perhaps but this mentality is also strangely common among self-proclaimed childfree men and even some women. Whenever I suggest forgoing PIV sex as a very accessible way of preventing pregnancies they act like it's impossible. At one point there was a woman on the childfree sub talking about how she and her boyfriend decided to stick to other sexual activities because they couldn't afford sterilisation and the comment section was pushing them to get sterilised anyway because the idea of a straight couple being fine without PIV just didn't compute apparently.

Not surprised at all. Antinatalism mostly appeals to self-absorbed men, and as usual pulls wool over women's eyes by making the expectation to be baby-making machines sound like some shared human instead of feminist issue that men can then be at the forefront of and make all about themselves. Lack of feminist awareness is why so many movements like this draw normie women in who feel betrayed by the system, but also still want to feel like part of that same normal male-favouring mainstream system instead of being singled out into "niche issues" like feminism.

These movements will always favour male narcissism and irresponsibility rather than have logical consistency between male and female rights - men like the idea of not having to take care of babies and they like the idea of not needing to use pesky protection in bed so ofc their movement is never going to challenge that. Any movement that criticises men and demands introspection of them is not going to be mainstream nor have any amount of men in it because their superiority complex doesn't allow it.

For women, the shame over not participating in penetrative sex is massive and it's a part of the general male-pandering approach to sex in our society. Any presented alternatives are even more one-sided ways of pandering to men, like fellatio or men's various fetishes, and are often just seen as a prelude or temporary steps before penetrative sex anyway.

In patriarchal society women are not supposed to have their libidos appealed to, but instead to get some kind of spiritual satisfaction from how "attractive" and "sexy" they are, a respite from naturally being ugly ogres unworthy of existing. And men are really only supposed to care about satisfying women (which they don't even do) to inflate their masculine egos because they have a willing participant in their games of degradation. So the notion of ever saying no to men (unless you're maintaining your Madonna status) or heaven forbid prioritising your own sexual pleasure is straight up unthinkable. It's paramount to torture for men, and women are brainwashed into it despite it consistently not doing anything for them because you want to BeKind to men, right? Especially all those poor lonely neglected men 🥺
