It's way past time to retire this kind of imagery. Sabrina already appeals to the male gaze. Why go for something demeaning that implies violence?

omg. I saw this earlier today on Reddit and I just... ugh. Disgusting.

For starter's the first thing I saw while browsing r/popular was just a text title about how the album was titled "Man's Best Friend" and I was like "...please don't let her be implying it's women and she equating women to dogs..." and then of course I click on the Instagram link and it loads the fucking image of her on all fours with a man grabbing her by the hair what the fucking hell. Just so horrible and disappointing.

The first Reddit thread I read was not even bothering to point out the blatant misogyny and no one seemed concerned, which further deprived my faith in humanity. Luckily, since then, most other Reddit threads on the matter were calling out how disgusting and sexist it is.

I'm also glad a lot of the comments are FINALLY calling out the bullshit about how "Sabrina Carpenter performs for the female gaze!!!" what in the fucking shit. This is the last straw, honestly. Sabrina Carpenter has always been sexualizing herself VERY CLEARLY FOR THE MALE GAZE and this is the final nail in the coffin. Anyone who tries to defend her "artistic choices" at this point is a fucking moron. There is no satire, there is no parody, this is just 100% pandering to the male gaze. Even if she wants to try and pull a 180 backpedal at some point in the future, it's going to be like that old "jokes on you, I was only pretending to be retarded" comic.

I have like a bajillion Reddit comments screenshotted at this point about this new album that I want to quote lol.

My first reaction was also "is this supposed to be a cheeky way to say b*tch or something?" Because just like that racist porn joke she made a while back it's not as witty as she thinks it is.

Though not to be the devil's advocate here but she wasn't always this male gazey. Her early work was actually pretty good for someone as young as she was at the time. She co-wrote a lot of it too. Pretty disappointing that she chose to go this route for fame.

That said, there's no coming back from this. She's using the photo as an album cover meaning it will be everywhere for girls and women to be reminded of how we're viewed. Given the rise in misogyny all around the world I have a hard time believing that Carpenter and her team didn't know what they were doing. And this is just the announcement. I don't want to know what else she has cooked up to promote this album.

I bet they're gonna try to pull the Maneater=empowerment angle. See, she may be a sex object, but men will fight each other to get in her pants, so actually she's a feminist icon. Nothing says empowerment like men wanting to fuck you and you "denying" them, because you're a Madonna and because it's statistically impossible for one woman to have sex with every single man who wants to have sex with her (nevermind her own desires and safety, who cares about that)

Someone collected a bunch of ads from the 50s and 60s that are related to Sabrina Carpenter's new album cover: https://reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/comments/1l9nsd5/vintage_ads_from_the_50s60s/

The documentary Killing Us Softly was mentioned in one of the comments.

I refuse to actually look at anything related to Sabrina Carpenter but this is exactly what I thought of immediately upon hearing the description. It is just.... not subtle.

Apparently there's also going to be a limited edition picture disc that features a Lolita inspired painting (by a man, of course): https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/comments/1l965m4/limited_edition_picture_disc_for_sabrina/

And she did a very male gazey photoshoot for Rolling Stone (https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/comments/1l9mjav/sabrina_carpenter_graces_the_cover_of_rolling/). All of this is (rightfully) pissing off the demographic that also makes up the majority of her fanbase, so I'm not sure what sort of career longevity she's hoping to achieve.

Yeah, I just saw today that Reddit post about the Rolling Stone cover. I think all her stunts are just straight up going backwards for women's causes. The attempted defenses of this being her "reclaiming femininity" are so braindead. Embarrassing and demoralizing. And apparently some fans are claiming "well she's never claimed to be a feminist," and yeah sure, but that's not the point. The point is she is a prolific female pop star with a huge young female fanbase who idolize her. Like, how is it okay that potentially large amounts of young women idolize a famous woman who puts out promotional content that equates women to men's dogs?

And then there's the other defense that "oh maybe her lyrics are going to be a lot about hating men or getting revenge" or some stupid shit like that, and it's like... so? How does that change the fact a bunch of gooners are going to fap to this Rolling Stone album cover and young people internalize that this is what women "should" look like and act like? Society is cooked, chat.

She's like a modern day poster-child for the New Age Stepford Wives.
