I'm going to link to this video in which a Black woman in active labor is being ignored by a nurse who apparently thinks getting through the hospital check-in process is more important than administering to the mother and baby about to be born (the infant was born 12 minutes after this video was taken). The Black obgyn who is commenting does a great job explaining why what this nurse did was so wrong and linking the nurse's neglect to the way Black women have worse outcomes than other racial groups in the U.S.
It's pretty traumatic to watch (both mother and baby survive), but it's important to see I believe. I'm so glad the person accompanying the mom recorded this because I'm sure that without video evidence she would be dismissed as overreacting if she files a complaint (which I hope she does)

I've seen the version of this without the ob-gyn's commentary, where it's just the patient and admitting nurse with the patient's mother taking the video and answering questions when her daughter is no longer able to. it's awful to watch. That poor young woman is in painful, active labor and there's no urgency to get her into a labor & delivery bed. I've seen so many comments that this being the woman's third pregnancy, plus her comment that she could feel it "in my ass" should have been a huge clue that baby was on its way within minutes and she needed to be in a hospital bed, not sitting in a wheelchair in the admitting room. I'm surprised she wasn't shrieking obscenities because I sure would have been.

It was so horrific to see her in such agony and being ignored. I'm relieved that every single person I've seen stitching the original vid did not criticize the mom, but correctly observed that this is medical abuse and violence. I hope the video, as painful it is, leads to some lasting changes for the better in Dallas (apparently this hospital is notorious for treating its Black and racial minority patients like this) and nationwide.
