I think you're spot on that this was the turning point of the website.

That the admins had to shut down ovarit during the election speaks volumes, how could any so called feminist support Trump? For a feminist site, just closing off registrations should have been enough to avoid any drama but the admins KNEW that there were Trump supporting people, in fact, ovarit was overrun by them in the lead up to the election. I remember threads talking about how it made sense to vote Trump because he knew what a woman was.

That time was wild. Tho in defense of the admins, they did say that during the election time, all of them were going to be taking a break/vacation/traveling or something, so they couldn't "mod" the site, so they just decided to close it down. I kinda don't blame them for that, like that place was a demoralizing agitated dumpsterfire during and after election time.

I think it got worse after the election cuz idk maybe a bunch of feminist women just gave up. I kinda did. I realized yesterday while talking to my sister that all that time I spent arguing with right-wingers was kinda wasted. It didn't change how fucked up and stupid our country was to elect a greedy conman who only cares about himself. I feel like in hindsight, that time would have been better spent forming connections and grouping up with women who actually believe things can be better and people can be good and decent to one another.

I do think girl_undone was put in an unenviable position where she had few mods she trusted and a website that had grown out of control at that point.

That said, let's just say you were unable to mod for a week here on CH. Technically it's the same sort of member recommends member system though there's an application too. Let's say it was the election of Trump. I'd be shocked to see any huge issue as no one here supports Trump.

For me, considering what GenderCritical started as, the fact that Ovarit was full of Trump stans by the end really was a sign that it had gone away from its radical feminist roots and become a site that was only trans bad. Which, I agree with, but I definitely do not agree that it means allying with people who think abortion is wrong, or electing a rapist is fine.

I can sort of excuse Vexxed as that is not the successor of Gender Critical but of Ovarit, and we all know what late stage Ovarit was, so none of us can be justified in entering it as a radical feminist, or at least a feminist zone, where no one can attack abortion, or defend people who attack abortion. Similarly, I don't think seeing LGBT are responsible for trans and the right wing pushback is something I'd expect from a r/GenderCritical replacement.

Weirdly enough CH is closer to a GenderCritical successor than Ovarit or Vexxed

Edit made on Jan 17: besties, she made another comment to explain, and so I wanted to say that i was wrong about assuming here, and was just being oversensitive and just was shocked for a moment, but I should've realized immediately of how the real racists would never be so outright lol. Anyways, after she elaborated what she meant, i agree with her opinion on the topic of wanting more black-black relationship representation! This site user seems like a cool person; i like her. ❤

But tbh, i checked this user's post history, and I'm wondering if I'm misjudging her or misunderstanding her like if maybe it's some language miscommunication cuz her other opinions seem to give off the impression that she's not a a conservative or bad person (maybe?) because of her surprisingly not wanting the US to interfere with Iran, her admitting that the US interfering with other countries making them worse, and her support of Medicaid. And so now I'm wondering if this is one of those more wholesome kind of racist old white ladies instead of the malicious kind that exists on Vexxed? (Before y'all judge me for using "wholesome" and "racist old white lady" in the same sentence, keep in mind that a person of color in the US, my perspective is so skewed lol 😭 cuz I am used to well-meaning racists that aren't as malicious and so I kind of have to have gotten used to and desensitized towards some level of racism just to get by in day to day life lol. So i prefer the pretense of not being racist and the way that some types of old racists just are racist to the extent of saying inappropriate things rather than wishing ill-intent on PoC, so idk for sure now if this is one of those sorts of decent white racist ladies with with bad manners? I dunno. I suppose I'll keep an eye out for her other comments before i decide tbh.)

I edited my comment to correct myself tbh. This site user didn't mean that comment the way that i had initially took it, and I think that she seems like a cool person who i like! ❤ I was assuming the worst only because of my perceptions of other site regulars so I apologize for this! I'm going to remove this link from my comment tbh, and if possible, would appreciate if others did too, because the arxhive link doesn't include the context of her updated comment so i don't want lurkers to get a skewed opinion of her.
