(May 24 2025, 8:21 AM)Elsacat Another example of how society often doesn't allow women to be human. Women are put on a weird pedestal and expected to be something different and better than human. If a woman slips up, she'll get shoved off that pedestal for a hard landing.

The problem with this take is in the wording "superior" or "better" - the patriarchy doesn't allow women to be better than men at anything. If women were truly seen as morally superior, people would not be shutting them up and talking over them, electing morally corrupt men into positions of power, revolve entire religions around these violent, deranged male characters or do all sorts of mental gymnastics to claim that women lie about rape and domestic violence. If women were truly considered better, our society would be telling men to stfu and try to be like women. The notion of "separate spheres" is nonsensical in a similar way where women are supposedly better at makeup or cooking, except OH WAIT, men are at the top of these industries, too! How is it that none of these ideas actually pan out in reality?
This attitude doesn't come from the notion of women being better, on the contrary: it comes from women being inferior subhumans by default who have to play on hard mode in order to convince men they have reason to exist beyond being a sex slave. It's why people draw the line at domestic violence only if the woman is an absolute perfect angel whose only raison d'etre is wanting to serve her husband. It's why so many jobs have the attitide that women should impress and gain the respect of men. It's why there are so many token female characters in media who either get overtaken by men, or are the token hypercompetent "girl" whose existence in the group is justified because "she can handle her own with the boys 💅". It's why so many female characters need to play the role of "the responsible one" and mother everybody else. This isn't a positive characterisation, it's essentially saying "you are a subhuman who has no reason to exist unless you are so inhumanely good at this one thing that we begrudgingly allow you in".
It's like when people act like they're morally superior for considering a woman for the role, with the assumption that she is majorly overqualified for it and leaves all the men in the dust, and meanwhile pick the man literally any other time by default. That's not "enlightened", that's just you drawing a line at your bigotry where you're willing to overlook it once it starts severely inconveniencing your prospects and profits to the point where even you can see it.
