Quote:
  • Missouri will stop seizing foster children's Social Security benefits to cover foster care costs.

  • The new law also bans marriage for anyone under 18 and voids non-disclosure agreements in child sex abuse cases.

  • Previously, over 1,200 foster children's benefits, totaling over $10.6 million, were used to fund their care.

  • The bill faced opposition from some Republican lawmakers regarding the child marriage ban.

Republicans showing themselves to be the Grand Old Pedos party as usual.

Child marriage in the U.S. is used as a defense for pedophilia.

Don't give sex offenders an out.

All good news, but I wish I hadn't read this.

Quote:"In 2023 Republican state Sen. Mike Moon’s opposition to the child marriage ban garnered national attention when he said: “Do you know any kids who have been married at age 12? I do. And guess what? They’re still married.”

I hope I don't know anyone who was married at age 12. If I do, and they're still married, it's probably because they've hardly known a different life and can't escape.

How does someone not get run out of office for saying something like that? Oh yeah, because he's a white male Republican in a conservative state, that's why.

If I'm not mistaken, Missouri was also the state of Todd "the female body has ways to shut that down" Aiken, so I guess the majority of voters there are used to bat-shit comments.
