With New DOJ Ruling, Women Fleeing Gender-Related Persecution Will Have an Even Harder Time Winning Asylum
Apart from the obvious issues with the what the Trump admin is doing, i actually didnt realize that sex is not explicitly viewed as a protected group in international law when it comes to refugee status, which was mind numbingly frustrating to find out. Sure, they can be included in the "membership of a particular social group" grounds, but this article spells out some of the obvious issues that causes and how thats been used against women time and time again. Not to mention that women and girls have been oppressed specifically on the basis of their sex in virtually every country on the planet, so its just insane to me to not give us explicit grounds on the basis of sex. Just another example of how not only the US, but the world at large, doesn't view us as fully human or acknowledge what girls and women face. Extremely disappointing.
