I will also say that even gay men will have more types than just "femboy but with lighter or darker lipstick". Even within that porn-soaked self-absorbed mentality you can at least be attracted to more personality-based vibes instead of just this fictionalised idea of femininity.
I don't think male heterosexuality works the way other sexualities do. Straight men only seem to have a fetish for femininity, as real female bodies are gross to them, as well as any aspect od women's lives that doesn't involve submission and servitude to them. That's why they can only have one type, because in straight male minds, women's lives don't exist beyond makeup, feminine posing and domestic servitude so there is nothing else to develop and interest and attraction to.
Some are also attracted to the superficially more physical notion of subjugating the designated subhuman class that exists to be their sex toy, and the small number of female signifiers are attractive to them not in and of themselves but because they represent this inferior status, they represent a painted target for sexual abuse and exploitation. But with how extreme beauty standards have gotten within capitalism, porn/OnlyFans, filters, AI, cartoon/anime porn etc., I find that most male interest in the modern day is becoming entirely focused on fetishising femininity as the main signifier of inferiority that's gotten so extreme it's sometimes even moved past the traditional physical signifiers of femaleness, which is how you get chronically online men whose only interest in other men is the "femboy" or TIM porn category (and ofc the whole trans attitude where performing this superficial femininity is supposed to trump actually being female when it comes to being a woman), a distinct group from gay men with longer and more general interest in other men.
Straight men are either attracted to other men's fictionalised female fantasies, or to signals of subhuman inferiority. Gay men, both being male themselves and also themselves raised within the patriarchy they benefit from, will view male accomplishments or characteristics as attractive outside of mere submission.
Which is why this isn't a male tendency, but specifically a straight male one. Even though gay men also have this self-absorbed, hierarchical, explotative mentality when it comes to other people as part of general male narcissism, that's different from thinking that your partner's entire existence is defined by being a submissive servile stereotype. Which is why we don't see as many gay incels screeching about how straight men should fuck them (imagine of we had gay men sliding into the DMs of every incel whining about how "lonely" he is, and lashing out at them if they say no! Incels would learn not to complain pretty quickly, methinks) They either passively fetishise about getting the attention of real manly straight men, or they direct their bitterness at (who else) women.
