News All porn sites must 'robustly' verify UK user ages by July
Quote:All websites on which pornographic material can be found, including social media platforms, must introduce "robust" age-checking techniques such as demanding photo ID or running credit card checks for UK users by July.
The long-awaited guidance, issued by regulator Ofcom, has been made under the Online Safety Act (OSA), and is intended to prevent children from easily accessing pornography online.
Research indicates the average age at which young people first see explicit material online in the UK is 13 - with many being exposed to it much earlier.
"For too long, many online services which allow porn and other harmful material have ignored the fact that children are accessing their services", said Ofcom boss Melanie Dawes, adding: "today, this starts to change."

Iâm so sickened by the fact that perverts/men are prioritized over children. I guess some people are trying to do something about it now, but if the so-called âprotectorsâ were actually protectors, they wouldnât be creating porn in the first place, wouldnât be putting it online, wouldnât be allowing other men to put it online, wouldnât be allowing men to profit off of it, would never have allowed kids to be exposed to it, and wouldnât be watching it themselves. And all the fake concern for children with their âAge verification harms kids!â Being exposed to rape and torture harms kids; a lot of kids are exposed without even searching it out, but they donât seem to have any concern for that. They don't seem to be motivated to find real solutions, whatever they may be. I don't know how effective these types of policies are, but the guys who object don't actually give a shit about kids. They care about their own privacy, but there's no way they can defend porn and care about kids. So many act like they can't live without it. They canât possibly come up with a solution to this issue that doesn't still involve women and girls being groomed, abused, degraded, raped, and tortured, because they don't want to, and because they canât expect most men to be decent enough to regard women as full human beings anyways. So their solution is to do nothing except fight and shame women who are actually trying to protect children.
(Jan 27 2025, 8:40 PM)flytraps_ Iâve seen these policies appearing more recently, but are they actually effective? I have doubts about their ability to reduce the harm caused by the porn industry. For pornsick coomer adult males? No, they're addicted to getting off on raped and abused women, so they will find workarounds like VPNs. But, I think these laws are helpful in that they prevent children from accidentally coming across pornography. I think the average age for a child to see pornography nowadays is like eight years old? I think that tracks with when my best friend and I were secretly trying to learn about "forbidden" stuff like "sex" on the internet during a sleepover and of course inevitably stumbled across degrading porn flash games and the like. We must have been like nine or so.Â
