suckmyarsee I live in Michigan. I'm a 26 yo. I had bilateral salpingectomy scheduled for the 24th. I had this scheduled since before January. I had my pre op appointment last week. I just got a call from my doctors office saying they no longer will be doing the procedure. At all. This was under trinity health, a catholic organization. But my doctor was wonderful and had no issues agreeing to do the surgery.
Yes this was a catholic organization. But I fear this is only the beginning. I have an appointment under a different organization tomorrow to discuss options.
Edit: WOW this blew up. I just want to add. Everyone is focusing on the fact this is a catholic institution. Trinity health is HUGE in Michigan. My primary care provider is through Trinity and she is the FIRST doctor to ever take me seriously. She was a last resort after a lifetime of medical gaslighting. When I saw the obgyn she was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, compassionate and professional. There was NEVER EVER any hint that they would cancel. Never a peep. At the pre op appointment last week Everything was business as usual. Should I have gone to a catholic organization to get this procedure done? In hindsight I guess not. That being said, this illuminates a bigger issue. Since our Healthcare is privatized they have the option to claim religious reasons to cancel these procedures. It is wrong, terrifying and like I said, I fear this is only the beginning.
SkullsnBones93 What was their reasoning for cancelling?
This makes me so nervous. I’m also in MI and have mine scheduled March 20th. Not thru a catholic org thou.
suckmyarsee The lady that called me from the office was literally in tears. Didn't really give me a reason just said I was the 7th woman she called and wasn't going to be the last.
LostAgain_000 I’m so sorry.

Religiously affiliated hospitals are a huge threat to our healthcare & autonomy.

This is so disturbing. And yes, there is a lot more and worse to come.
(Feb 18 2025, 11:42 AM)Elsacat The more that religious institutions get a foothold in matters, the more this is going to happen. Trump establishing a White House Faith Office is a BAD sign. That should never happen. There should never be a "faith office" as part of U.S. government. They wipe their asses with the Constitution. "Separation of church and state" is a joke now. I wonder how long this government webpage about it will last.
