ProPublica, February 20 2025.

https://www.propublica.org/article/texas-abortion-ban-sepsis-maternal-mortality-analysis

Quote:Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion in 2021, ProPublica found in a first-of-its-kind data analysis.

The rate of sepsis shot up more than 50% for women hospitalized when they lost their pregnancies in the second trimester, ProPublica found.

The surge in this life-threatening condition, caused by infection, was most pronounced for patients whose fetus may still have had a heartbeat when they arrived at the hospital.

ProPublica previously reported on two such cases in which miscarrying women in Texas died of sepsis after doctors delayed evacuating their uteruses. Doing so would have been considered an abortion.

A lot of trans/queer-identified people speak of wanting to flee, getting refugee status since the Trump regime... I think however that better candidates would be American women (from such states). Women, when pregnant, lose crucial human rights upon pregnancy, lose bodily autonomy, face severe persecution if they're trying to save their own very lives (such as when a pregnancy is doomed and deadly) and are denied medical care. How much worse can it get? I also struggle to understand the doctors who just let these women rot, literally. Is there an underground network? There should be. I get that they fear legal problems but imo not performing life-saving procedures constitutes as a form of murder. When forced to do wildly unethical things you need to take a stand, and sure, a lot of doctors will be conservative, but a lot won't, as well.

My heart aches for these women.
