Singleness of purpose gets things done. Right-wingers know this, and use it to their advantage.

It's why the current "mainstream" feminist movement has been so effectively defanged - the insistence that women focus on every other issue distracts us from focusing on OUR main purpose - the rights of women.

If we're busy with everyone else's work, we have no time or energy for our own.

Makes sense. I think for feminism there is a requirement of balance between prioritizing women's rights and also not losing sight of the need for intersectionality (of course relating to women). Modern feminism went off the deep end by allowing people to claim "intersectionality!!" to try to turn feminism from women fighting for women's liberation into women becoming "activism mommies" for everyone else.

The right-wing do not have any requirement for such a balance, because they are authoritarian and homogenous. It is much much easier for them to unite on one issue and "get in line" due to their authoritarian and regressive political views.

It is important to maintain the balance so feminist causes do not falter to becoming exclusionary against groups of women while also not falling into the "feminine trap" of thinking they need to coddle every single progressive/activist cause.

Yes. Intersectionality that relates to women (e.g. misogynoir) is still focusing on women.

The incursions from trans activism + reframing of feminism being "for men, too" - i.e. feminism is about equality, not female liberation - were the main culprits.

Damn that patriarchal conditioning. That shit is pernicious and SO hard to root out.

I understand women caving to the kind of political and social pressure that gets exerted on us Every Single Time we try to have one thing for ourselves. I hate so much that it happens so often.

I don't know that I agree they are homogenous necessarily, but authoritarian attitudes definitely conflict with a y idea of balance or fairness. The war against DEI is proof of that.

Religion is probably RW's mist effective cudgel for getting the masses in line, especially women, who have been raised to be self-effacing and self-sacrificing under a specifically male authority.

The either/or, us vs them nature of most Christian denominations in the US sets up that one-issue obedience perfectly.

Exactly.

And singleness of purpose does not exclude any group of women, not if the goal is female liberation.

It's a big project. There are lots of work to do in lots of different subcategories.

As individuals, no one of us can focus on everything, but as a movement we need to be welcoming to every woman who wants to help further that goal.

perimenopausal and cranky as hell. also laughs at the drop of a hat. it's an exciting life, what can I say?
