Every time I listen to any kind of music with lyrics, the words pop out at me - and so does the misogynist bullshit. And my brain WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT IT.

So you all will be subjected treated to my asshole commentary feminist readings of whatever popular* music I encounter.

ETA: I may have to take this somewhere else. I keep wanting a tagging system...

* this might be pretty old stuff** on occasion - music from the last century or so are basically what's on the chopping block menu, though most will be from the last 50-70 years..
** Tentative organization will be by decade, then artist, then song. We'll see if that works lol

The 1960s

The Beatles, "We Can Work It Out" (McCartney/Lennon), 1965

Offenses: browbeating, coersion via threats, diminishing

Verse 1 Try to see it my way
Do I have to keep on talking till I can't go on?
While you see it your way

Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone

Verse 2 Think of what you're saying
You can get it wrong and still you think that it's alright
Think of what I'm saying
We can work it out and get it straight or say good night

Bridge Life is very short and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend

I have always thought that it's a crime
So I will ask you once again

Verse 3 Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we might fall apart before too long

This bothers me too, so much! I never really listened to the lyrics to some songs by Buddy Holly bc I just liked the music/way his voice went up and down throughout but I finally heard the lyrics for "Maybe Baby" and holy shit what a creep.

"Maybe baby, I'll have you
Maybe baby, you'll be true
Maybe baby, I'll have you for me (all for me)

It's funny honey, you don't care
You never listen, to my prayer
Maybe baby, you will love me some day (someday)

Well, you are the one that makes me glad
And you are the one that makes me sad
When some day, you'll want me
Well, I'll be there, wait and see"

Like jfc leave her ALONE. She doesn't like you at all, quit pestering her and respect her boundaries. You do not get to coerce people into dating you.
