“This case is not about regret,” Deutsch said, but about healthcare professionals who chose to “empower” a patient instead of treat her. Einhorn and Chin should have ensured that Varian’s other psychological conditions, including anorexia, depression, ADHD, autism, and body dysmorphia were “well-controlled” before approving the surgery, Deutsch added, according to the Epoch Times reporting.

Dozens of detransitioner lawsuits have been filed, according to Ryan, who tracks the cases. Varian’s was the first to win a judgement.

This verdict is the first successful jury trial in the United States brought by a detransitioner against medical professionals involved in paediatric gender medicine.

While other cases have been settled out of court or dismissed on procedural grounds, this decision represents the first of hopefully many instances in which the rapid medical "affirmation" of minors is rejected as best medical practice.

Importantly, the jury’s finding makes clear that clinicians cannot rely on contested ideological frameworks to shield themselves from legal accountability...

Women’s Forum Australia has long warned that adolescent girls – particularly those experiencing mental ill-health, trauma, and neurodivergency are significantly overrepresented among those being pushed onto harmful medical pathways that fail to address their underlying needs.

The removal of healthy breasts from teenage girls is not a neutral or reversible intervention. It permanently alters the body, removes sexual and reproductive tissue, and carries lifelong physical and psychological consequences. The Varian verdict affirms what many detransitioners have been saying for years: that the politicisation of healthcare resulting in affirmation-only practices has replaced careful diagnosis, evidence-based care, and safeguarding.

Given how often I've seen detrans women rush full steam towards hyperfeminine gender roles to the point that I almost never see butch and gender nonconforming women, and given the fact that these trans activists were also right about the spread of conservativism (which I didn't initially believe and thought was just another one of their brainless poo-poo tactics), I'm curious about how prevalent this is. I find it absolutely tragic that even detrans women can't stop chasing patriarchal approval through self-harming gender roles, so I would find it very unsurprising that this is happening, and also depressing that so many anti-trans activists are more concerned with using these women as "gotchas" than actually looking at whether their reasons for detransitioning were just as unhealthy as trans people's reasons for transitioning.

I saw this posted on Ovarit and read it. What a heartbreaking story, probably the best first-hand account I've ever seen of not only getting into the trans cult and the difficulty leaving it, but about what led this woman to her transition in the first place. Anyone with an interest in why girls and women would transition should read it, even though she only speaks for herself. I hope everyone who reads it doesn't just focus on "of course she got into the trans cult, she was finding trans people online! and in school support groups!" It started long before she was online or in environments with in-person trans support.

I hope readers really think about what this woman's early life was like, the homophobia, misogyny, and male violence that made her feel like she couldn't be a girl. I hope readers also really think about what it was like for her after she finally found her place with women who could love and appreciate her as she is.

There's a place in hell for her family, especially her father, and there are so many families like that today, smug in their red state, Fox News households thinking that no dykes or f@ggots or tr@nnies will be allowed any more. When the pendulum eventually swings back away from conservatism, we're setting up to have a new explosion of trans youth. The only way out of this is NOT just "keep kids away from the trans cult"; it's making sure they never feel like they have to turn to any cult in the first place. And if it hadn't been trans, it would have been something else for this woman, some other cult or cult-adjacent group that would lovebomb and welcome her.

Let kids be gender nonconforming and lesbian/gay, if that's who they are. Be good parents. Stop making womanhood look like a prison. And stop abusing and bullying your kids, for god's or someone's sake. For the kids' sake.

It is from acting NIH Director Mark Memoli, and says the NIH must study the impact of "social transition and/or chemical and surgical mutilation" among children who transition. I found this to be a fascinating read, and indeed, a strikingly familiar one, as someone who has a Tumblr and has been in fandom spaces for over two decades.
Are You Asking Why? is the website of a group of women who were there quite some years ago when I was first reidentifying, and who I think have strong feminist principles sorely needed in this movement, and have put together a lot of great writing and resources to that end. Here's some information from their homepage:

Quote:
We are a group of detransitioned and re-identified women who have been doing grassroots organizing since 2013.

Some Reasons Why it Matters:

Feminists in the Crosshairs - Not Just "Reaching Across the Aisle"

"We may think we are engaged on a single-issue basis with these groups, especially when they appropriate secular, even feminist language, but we are also in their crosshairs. The fact that they've shifted their attention, for the moment, to trans-women should fool nobody. Gender identity is a wedge issue against the whole package of what is known, in terms of international law, as 'SOGI - sexual orientation and gender identity - and against everything represented by the left, including anti-racism and feminism."

We oppose collusion with the right-wing. We do not consent to our stories being co-opted by an anti-LGBT and anti-woman agenda.
