Quote:I’ve been reporting on anti-feminist smear campaigns, anti-abortion lies, and right-wing media strategies for years now—so I can see through these posts as the astroturfed slop that they are. The problem is, many young women aren’t journalists or aware of the pink pill pipeline. Many will see the sheer volume of posts about the supposed dangers of birth control and conclude birth control is unsafe, or that IVF is an exploitative, predatory industry.
The goal is to flood the zone with so much anti-birth control content that young women believe we’re encountering this content organically. In reality, what we’re experiencing is a coordinated effort by right-wing actors, steadily manufacturing our consent to ban birth control—and more. The result? More and more women self-reporting worsened experiences with birth control as a self-fulfilling prophecy, according to researchers, or changing their contraceptive method based on what they’re hearing online.

I don’t agree with the author’s use of “pink pill” elsewhere in this article, because “pink pill” has already been in use for years to mean a very different mindset than described here. Other than that, I agree with her.

Allowing pharmacies (and hospitals) to "boycott" birth control is next.

My one reservation about a true single-payer health care system in the U.S. is that we will always, regardless of whether Dems ever return to power, have about 30-40% of the population who think they have the right (and actually god-mandated duty) to interfere in the health care decisions, especially those concerning reproduction, of other people. If the U.S. survives (which I doubt as this point), Americans will whiplash between abortion/birth control coverage and abortion/bc bans for the rest of my life.

Conservatives are at it again. Criminalizing women who do abortions instead to attend more pressing issues like the rate of unemployment, the fragile electrical system, schools in bad conditions, etc. No, the government waste their time in this. The worse is the governor of PR, who is a woman with two twins, wants to impose this bill. Well I think this is bill is already approved.

Quote:The European Parliament voted today in support of an EU fund to expand access to abortion for women across the bloc, in a historic ballot that divided lawmakers.

The plan would establish a voluntary, opt-in financial mechanism to help countries provide abortion care to women who can’t access it in their own country and who choose to travel to one with more liberal laws. European citizens presented the plan in an EU petition — through the campaign group “My Voice, My Choice.”

Lawmakers in Strasbourg voted 358 in favor and 202 against the proposal, and 79 MEPs abstained.

Describes human trafficking of young women from impoverished backgrounds to work as surrogates, the inhumane way they are treated by doctors & international surrogacy companies, and how the companies carefully choose their location to get away with it. Shows the classist & racist attitudes of the surrogacy industry.
The Chinese Billionaires Having Dozens of US-Born Babies Via Surrogates (WSJ, archived)

Ultra-rich Chinese men want to have huge numbers of children for the same reasons as nasty Western billionaires like Elon Musk (muh legacy). Sons are to take over the family business, and daughters are to be married off to world leaders.
The Men That Take Babies Away From Their Mother (Julie Bindel)

Julie describes court cases in the UK about surrogacy arrangements for gay couples. Even with increased regulation and scrutiny in a developed, rich country, surrogacy arrangements can still go wrong. She also criticises the attitude of commissioning parents towards the surrogate mother - they view her as a birthing machine who can be erased from the child's life once her job is done, ignoring the emotional bonds that are created during pregnancy and birth. (This article is not an argument against gay couples becoming parents - it's about the pitfalls of surrogacy in particular)

I had never given much thought to surrogacy until I began to read about radical feminism. My uninformed stance was that it was a positive thing, allowing infertile couples to have children in the same way IVF does. Deep down, I also sympathised with women who didn't want to go through the process of pregnancy and birth - something I am scared of, myself. These articles have given me a lot to think about. There are a lot of similarities between surrogacy and prostitution as they both involve the dehumanization and sale of womens' bodies. But the women interviewed in the first article described surrogacy as even worse than sex trafficking - because what prostitution involves is "self-explanatory", easy to understand, whereas surrogacy involves the medical horror of never knowing exactly what the doctors are doing to you.
