(Wasn't sure whether to post this here or in Chat, but guessed since this was a music-themed forum that it was the right place.)

Thought I'd create a thread where we can share songs that we like. Lots of boards have a dedicated, all-purpose "what are you listening to right now?" or song recommendations type thread and I noticed that we didn't yet, so thought I'd make one. Since this is a feminist board, I'll set out a basic standard that all songs you share should at minimum be female-fronted. (Exception 1: If it's an instrumental song, then the lead / most front-and-center musician should be female. Exception 2: If it's a lyric-free game/show tune, it must be from a game or show that centers on a female character.) Also please try to avoid content that revolves around celebrating heterosexuality if possible. (In other words, don't post the Taylor Swift song Wood or others like it that threaten to make me barf.) Other than that, any theme or genre goes. This is just for fun!

I'll start us off with a few some stuff I've been listening to lately. Prepare yourselves for my goth-geek sensibility. I'm kidding. Nothing can prepare you.

Theme of Shut-In Samus (Yet to Be Confirmed)

I Only Paint in Red Now (Lydia the Bard)

And here's a couple fun songs by my favorite band. These are metal jams, so I recommend cranking the volume up nice and loud the way these songs are meant to be heard.

Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (Babymetal) <-- New version!

BxMxC (Babymetal) <-- Their Mortal Kombat style video.

And finally, here's a cool tune by a Japanese punk group I discovered recently.

When is Your Birthday? (Sorry No Camisole)

Quote:Unsung heroines of classical music are being resurrected from obscurity thanks to a new record label dedicated to women composers.

La Boîte à Pépites (The Jewel Box) was founded by French cellist Héloïse Luzzati. It builds on the ‘Elles – Women Composers’ festival and YouTube channel she started to promote forgotten female creators.
Many of the label’s composers have never been recorded and Luzzati spent hours poring over original manuscripts and first editions to rescue their work from obscurity.

The article is a couple of years old but this label is still going! They've had to change their name after a dispute (they're now called Cité des Compositrices) and are apparently planning to launch a score publishing house this year.
Hayley will probably get some shade from people thinking she's excusing singer Michael Tait's predatory behavior. I don't see it that way. As she says, "F— All of You Who Knew and Didn’t Say Anything" and she's also right that just being gay is NOT the problem.

One of the things I hate about the current pushback against trans is the number of people I see who are either okay with the TQ+ pushback taking down LGB with it, or who actively want to push back against LGB also and think LGB is "mental illness" "depraved" "sinful" etc. I'm tired of people who blame only the TQ+ for that, too. Someone who hates lesbian and gay people probably didn't start hating lesbian and gay people just because Dylan Mulvaney got a specialty Bud Light can or because Bruce Jenner became Caitlyn Jenner. They already hated LGB and they don't get a hall pass from me just because we share some negative opinions on TQ+.
