(Jun 25 2025, 8:46 PM)Wrongtoy Oh great now I’m getting downvoted over there for daring to say the hijab issue is, well, not the most imminent female priority. I do not understand the obsession with this overall whereas we see Sikh turbans and Chabad huge hats (they look Russian but I do t know the name) without any challenge or concern at all.

If I’m trapped in Gaza I’m prob wearing one of those even as a non Muslim considering I don’t have enough water or soap to wash it more than a month and its likely full of lice until I shave it off, at which point going around bald is not preferable. The bigger issue is that if I had an infant who survived, it would have been born starving or descending into starvation.

Some (not all) criticisms of hijab-ism is just a way for the critics to express Islamaphobic and deflect from the genocide being committed in Gaza. I think hijab and the non-voluntary imposition of "modest" dress is problematic regardless of which religion is being used fo impose it, but I think it's ridiculous to use this issue to deflect from the bigger crises happening right now. (It's similar to why I think abortion rights will always be more important than the trans issue for women - lack of access and restrictions on abortion will always kill and injure more women every year than trans-id'ed males ever will.)

I do want to thank you for continuing to fight the good fight on vexxed. I upvote you but I usually don't comment bc I find dealing with hasbarists and other people making excuses for genocide (as long as it's countries the West supports doing it) disgusting and depressing. It's like talking with MAGA cultists here in the U.S.. - they will never understand unless they personally are the ones getting bombed, starved, shot at, deported, etc.

War snd starvation cannot be excused because women customarily wear a piece of clothing where everyone is being starved or shot.   How about stopping shooting and starving them instead of putting forth this veil or scarf as the reason to shoot or starve them ie regime chsnge?
