I got an invite for this place on Ovarit a month or so ago and after deleting my account today I truly appreciate it even more. I found a lot of neat people there and watching it turn into what it is now has been so demoralizing.

Watching all the new mean MAGA church ladies post about how great Trump is after a bare minimum executive order and regurgitate Republican talking points was the final straw. The blatant homophobia that has been building up over the past two years was something I am used to as a lesbian and can tolerate a lot of but the denialism and Christian conservative obsession with MAGA is something I cannot stomach.

So basically just thanks and I hope to watch this site grow and to agree and disagree with others in good faith, read more neat posts by women far more articulate than I am, and feel a little less demoralized here.

Hi! :D Welcome! I think a lot of us feel the same way. (I'll try to say this next thing as nicely as I can because I've been feeling guilty about being overly negative about the place, but— 🤣)

Personally, I appreciate what r/gc did for me in the past in opening my eyes to the regressiveness of gender ideology, but these days I find that Ovarit is no longer a good fit for me. I don't agree with their light-handed content moderation approach; I would strongly prefer that disinformation was not allowed to spread. Speaking as someone who for years modded a Reddit sub much, much larger than r/gc, I think it's important as an admin not just to silently remove comments, but to make proactive statements when content that is not acceptable is removed. These statements are not scoldings, they can and should be neutral in tone, but they're important. They not only remind everyone what the content policy is, but they also show willing—they demonstrate that you're on top of things and that you care about the direction of the sub. If something (for example, blatant misinformation) is unacceptable to be posted, it shouldn't be left up to the users to police. That's just turning your subreddit into a free-for-all where the rules are unclear and everyone is arguing all the time, and where people who want to break rules or push boundaries will be emboldened and continue to do so endlessly until other people get sick of it. 🤷

That being said, community-building is not an easy process by any means, and I don't want to disparage what they've accomplished. So, I encourage everyone reading this who believes in the project of CH to try to create posts, engage other users on their posts, and bring other radfem women into the fold. :) If it bothers you what Ovarit has become, let's actively try to build a different kind of space for women together!

Welcome! I also used to be active on Ovarit and deleted my account for the same reasons you did. From reading other posts here I feel like at least 50% of us are in the same boat lol.

Ovarit is very strict with its moderation, actually; women constantly get banned and have comments deleted for not playing nice with conservatives, Zionists and racists, and when they point out this elephant in the room. And despite their excuses that misogyny has to be allowed because the forum is for "all" women, liberal feminists and pro-trans crowds are completely out of the picture despite making up probably the majority of female populace. It's not that Ovarit doesn't moderate, it's that its strict moderation works on blatant double standards in favour of conservatives.

Sorry for not being more specific—light-handed moderation approach toward anti-feminist views and blatant disinformation. Though what you're describing isn't moderation; I would consider that censorship (of feminist women, non-conservative views, etc). To me, the distinction is important. Ovarit's problem is twofold: they are (as you say) censoring feminist views, and they are also not moderating disinformation, etc. I was talking about the latter.

I also want to say thank you. I don't know why I waste my time still posting and commenting on Ovarit. The mods have deleted my posts and comments that are critical of Trump and his supporters, and their messages are very disappointing.

This site is a breath of fresh air.

Agreed! I didn’t even know what radfem even meant before a friend sent me the site and I do appreciate what they did. I had already started to question a lot of what I was asserting and honestly, just never saw some of the research many radfems posted over the years there. I truly owe a lot to many incredible women there.

Respect to what they built and hopefully this place grows into something great! :)
