Hope you choose better than we did.

Also sharing this because it made me chuckle.

I'm sure Carney wishes that Trump hadn't won, because it's bad for Canada to have a narcissistic and demented idiot in charge of your neighbor to the south. But at least there's the silver lining that the idiot has no idea of what motivates Canadians.

I hope the same. Trump can't and won't give Americans what he's promising to Canadians. Sometimes I wonder if Trump is even fully aware of some of what's going on, or the effects of it, or if his staff is telling him everything's great and everyone's happy.

Oh he's definitely in a bubble and too mentally and psychologically incompetent to realize he's
in one.

Hi, Canadian here, whose application just got accepted.

CTV Is just now declaring a Liberal Party win, confirming Mark Carney as the Canadian Prime Minister. Though, Conservatives have won many seats in the House of Parliament.

Very glad for you - Carney isn't perfect by any means, but from what I've read of the Conservatives' platform, he's still better than the alternative.

Both sides are extreme in their own ways (as is typical of most countries), and the liberals still like to pretend they don't know what a woman is.

Overall though, we got the better choice.

Mark Carney also won his own riding of Nepean.

Trump hasn't won a new crony here.

Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre scurried away to look for cheese after his concession speech, before his own riding, Carleton, was called. He lost it to Liberal Bruce Fanjoy.

Fanjoy had told the National Post, “Canada has never had a party leader as right wing as Pierre Poilievre. I respect conservatives. I’m not running against conservatives. I’m running for Canada against Pierre Poilievre.”

That last sentence in particular hits hard. Makes me wonder what could have been, if the Harris/Walz campaign had used more of that kind of messaging, maybe in the sense of "I respect classic conservatives, even if I don't agree with them on much", and doubled down on running FOR the U.S., as well as AGAINST Trump and others who want to undermine the country. Not just "Democrats good, trans good and needs our votes/help"

I think the U.S. Democrat party could learn a lot from Canada's recent election. Whether they choose to learn it is up to them.

Also, trans people and TRAs better send their thank-you notes to Trump, based on all the stuff I've been seeing in the news about Trump's "51st state" megalomanic/dementia-ridden rants contributing to Carney's surge and win. Can't spell "trans" without "rants" ya know. If Trump had STFU and never said any of that, we might be looking at a Poilievre win (which wouldn't have been a good thing imo, but I'm not Canadian so my opinion means little).

Poilievre (or as I call him, Trumpierre) is terrible. But it was a close race, and we still have almost as many conservatives who won their seats, which is not the best sign in Trumps climate. Though, it would certainly have been worse if we'd lost Carney.

It will be... interesting to see how it all turns out, because we don't know if he will remain in the conservative party or what role he might play going forward. This was his 8th election, and it's great that he finally lost.
