Definition
I don't know if anyone is as confused about this word as I am, because it constantly changes meaning every 5 years, but recently in voice chats, games, etc, it seems that being a "gooner" is normalised and something that can be discussed openly. even on tiktok. The definition that's being used is that they are porn-addicts, self-proclaimed degenerates, people who can't help but think about sex, people who masturbate openly, etc. I don't know how far a sexual deviance does this definition encompass, but here we are.
Porn & degenerate behaviour
what would be a good example is this guy: https://www.yahoo.com/news/black-man-leaves-suicide-note-185100661.html
He was indecently dressed in public, got caught in a viral video, and that made him wake up to his actions. Not the reaction and shock of the women who had to see him, but the internet.
It seems like people on the internet are not embarassed or ashamed about watching porn or objectifying women at all. I feel like it got worse, is it just me?
Women too?
I've seen a lot of women actually admit to watching porn and speak like a gooner. they'd make lewd art, laugh at questionable jokes, and also generally display incel behaviour.
What do you think about this? have you seen online gooners?
I think goonerism is very male, with the majority of porn being made by and targeted to men. And I think it's disgusting and pathetic.
Women can also be negatively influenced by porn, but I think it's usually in a different way. There are probably female gooners out there, but generally I think women are more likely to sexualize themselves to cater to gooners, or participate in the dangerous and degrading kind of sex you see in porn because it's so normalized. Especially for anyone who grew up seeing it from a young age.
To me the real female equivalent of goonerism is fujoshi (women obsessed with boys love manga and anime). Unlike mainstream porn, yaoi/BL is targeted to women. As a former fujoshi, I don't think it's as insidious as being a gooner, but some people do take it into gross fetishising territory.
I've run across fujo goonerism in fanspaces and it's all a bit much. Not surprisingly, a lot of those same women and girls identify as nonbinary or trans. It was probably the thing that made me realize, I'm too old for this shit, I just want to talk about works I like, not be hit with bad fujo art, "omegaverse" and "mpreg" versions of characters, and other weirdness. I'm not anti-shipping, anti-fanfic, or anti-fanart; I have an X-Files avatar, of course I'm aware of shipping in fandoms, lol. I just don't like it when it gets goony and that's all anyone wants to focus on. I feel like grandma who needs to be helped to her favorite napping chair.
I don't know what fujoshi is but reading erotic books is hardly gooner or weird right?
I agree, the women who watch porn or act in degenerate ways are attention-seeking for the boys, but i think it goes further that they are the exact copy of the male incel and they themselves see themselves as ugly or something. I've noticed it's women in their late 20s or in their 30s that are single that behave like this, and i don't think this phenomenon existed before when we were all younger.
My next running theory is that it is adult brainrot and they are openly being gooners because they are so entrenched in the spaces that they don't realise when to codeswitch out of it, kind of like the brainrot of the younger generations.
