I play a lot of an MMO, and I recently found out that one of my female friends on another server has more or less quit the game due to being cyber stalked. :/ We hadn't been playing together recently as her work schedule had changed, but she still logged on to hang out with her guild. Apparently, a few months ago, she began receiving harassment in DMs every time she logged on to the game, from accounts she didn't know. Whoever was behind it also began DMing everyone in her guild, trying to spread rumors about my friend and telling everyone to leave the guild.
When I found out about this, I was livid. :( I've offered to help her come over to our server and join our guild instead, but understandably she's not sure if she wants to keep playing or not.
I have countless stories like this from my time running gaming groups, so...yeah. I am glad they included this in the report.
Thank you for sharing this! I was skimming it last night; it's quite long, I'll have to find time to sit down and read it in full. It specifically calls out CVAW in online gaming, a sphere I am unfortunately familiar with.
