Oh boy did it make me seethe to see that get downvoted and deleted on Ovarit, though I guess in light of recent events I'll just repost my comment here:
Quote:The bio-metaphysical claim is just such a slam dunk to me, there is absolutely no reason we should be basing any major social-legal-geopolitical affairs on mythologies. That any forward-thinking person doesn't feel her intelligence is insulted to hear any variation of "well god said, so tough titties, and my god is conveniently real unlike anyone else's god" about anything that will have a real, material impact on people... boggles the mind, breaks the heart. I can't spare much sympathy for even the most well-behaved among these groups because the ideology is so tainted with this petulant religious fanaticism, this forced conversion to their versions of reality.

Ovarit is closing and still some Zionists are trying to say if you’re not a Zionist you’re not feminist.

Over at saidit the rule will be that you can say whatever Zionist stuff you want. However I’m expressly allowing Palestinian comment too and no that doesn’t make me pro terrorist.

Thanks for sharing this. Two things frustrate me about the Palestine and Israel politics:

1. That criticism of Israel or acknowledgement of Zionism seems to quickly make people equate it to "antisemitism."
2. That antisemitism still exists in the first place and that some people are rubbing their hands at the chance to convince people to be antisemitic with the latest geopolitical Middle Eastern conflicts. (Seriously, what the fuck? Why the fuck..?)

I do not understand why it is difficult have a position that Israel was built on land "given" to them from Britain, a country that had no right to give them that land, land that was Palestinian before colonization, and yet also somehow prevent people from thinking that means they are free to go full-on antisemitic, vandalizing synagogues, and thinking they get a "hall pass" to harass/abuse Jewish people. The hell is going on.

What Hamas did was horrifying and wrong, it was terrorism. At the same time, Israel retaliating by destroying Palestinian hospitals because "Hamas is hiding there" is also fucking wrong???

Can we just not kill and rape Palestinian women and girls? Can we just not kill and rape Israeli women and girls? The fuck.

Palestinian women are excluded from fighting or serving as government heads. They are by definition innocent, yet they are about 70 percent of the dead. The live ones don’t have pads. If they need csections it is without asethetic. Due to malnourishment and stress, they can’t breastfeed. Theres no formula either.

So spare me, Zionists, when you redirect the conversation to “but Hamas” as these women don’t run it and are not fighting in it. If you don’t support pads, prenatal vitamins and formula, you are not women’s liberation.

The attitude around this topic on Ovarit always pisses me off. If you aren't in total support of Israel you're down voted heavily, I was several times for innocuously stating harm to women from BOTH sides is wrong. Threads about it get 100's of more comments than any other posts and are often locked eventually. The heavily pro-Israel slant there is perplexing to me.

Yep. I understand feminists being upset at the Hamas apologism around October 7th (like the public figures refusing the condemn the mass rapes). But at this point I feel like everyone should be upset by the violence toward Palestine. Like at some point enough is enough, regardless of what "side" you're on it's clear that too many civilians are being killed and harmed, including innocent women and girls. Not sure how any feminist can defend that.

There are reports of Israeli female soldiers sticking “inspection devices” into the rectums and vaginas of Palestinian women. An x ray would at least be more feminist.

I don't see how it's possible support the Israeli government in this. Genocide is never acceptable, and while I definitely understand feeling like you can't do anything to change your government (US based here, living in a red state) you don't have to support them in literally everything.

That has always baffled me too. The only way to see an equivalence between atrocities on both sides is to count one Israeli life as equal to hundreds of Palestinians.

(Hi, this is my first post but I didn’t feel like starting with an announcement. Some of you may know me from Ovarit or Reddit.)
