Fuck, I bet I’d be downvoted myself for what I’m going to say, but the fact is that Haaretz reported that Israeli pathologist found no evidence of rape on Oct 7 bodies. Nor have there been first person claims of rape from released female hostages. The same witnesses who claimed “hearing women raped” are of the same group that said there were 40 beheaded babies (there was one child killed) and babies baked in ovens. The idf itself chose to walk back the latter.

The cynical abuse of of sexual violence and exploitation of "believe women" is something I can never forgive Israel for. Capitalizing on the already out-of-control racism their sympathisers have about the intrinsic barbarism of SWANA people doesn't just naturalise violence against these people, it sows doubt about feminist approaches to disclosing sexual violence, if not outright discredits them. It is so disgustingly cynical, it simply cannot be in womens' best interest to blindly capitulate to every deeply misogynistic imperialist government who jingles the keys in front of our faces to justify regime change and occupation because the men belonging to the Bad Guys™ do bad things. We KNOW the whole world hates women, and if you know that, you should know better than to capitulate whenever the keys are jingled in your face.

What turned me from a neutral/"it's complicated" position on Israel was the de rigeur descriptions and depictions of the sexual violence female IOF members (and citizens who refused conscription) themselves were subjected to. It should not be a reach to connect the dots about the sexual violence inherent to colonization and ethnic cleansing. It is very well-documented. It shouldn't even be demanded that we justify opposition to genocide on feminist grounds, but for fuck's sake, you absolutely can!

I mean even if the men there treat women much worse, no country in the world is attacking another because they care about human rights, just as no colonialism happened out of genuine concern for technologically less advanced peoples - it was always about exploiting cheap labour to build an infrastructure for one's own benefit. And tell me again how concerned the US is about women's rights when one of its key allies is the goddamn Saudi Arabia, and meanwhile it had no issues destabilising comparatively far more progressive and secular governments for its own gain.

I think we all agree that the lack of access to abortion or the customary wearing of hijab isn’t the most pressing female need in Gaza right now. Access to pads, prenatal vitamins and formula are like the bare minimum here.

Exactly, at best it's a lack of critical thinking, but at worst its a sinister manipulation to maintain and deflect criticism of certain status quos. The Anglosphere doesn't arm successful feminist militias, and if they do, it's not out of the goodness of their hearts.

Oh, just a 2 on 1 gang rape by two Israelis on a Palestinian woman. Just rape with objects and ritual genitalia beatings by, well, mostly women. Just another day of testimony in Geneva.

(Mar 22 2025, 8:21 PM)Clover Thanks for sharing this. Two things frustrate me about the Palestine and Israel politics:

1. That criticism of Israel or acknowledgement of Zionism seems to quickly make people equate it to "antisemitism."
2. That antisemitism still exists in the first place and that some people are rubbing their hands at the chance to convince people to be antisemitic with the latest geopolitical Middle Eastern conflicts. (Seriously, what the fuck? Why the fuck..?)

I do not understand why it is difficult have a position that Israel was built on land "given" to them from Britain, a country that had no right to give them that land, land that was Palestinian before colonization, and yet also somehow prevent people from thinking that means they are free to go full-on antisemitic, vandalizing synagogues, and thinking they get a "hall pass" to harass/abuse Jewish people. The hell is going on.

What Hamas did was horrifying and wrong, it was terrorism. At the same time, Israel retaliating by destroying Palestinian hospitals because "Hamas is hiding there" is also fucking wrong???

Can we just not kill and rape Palestinian women and girls? Can we just not kill and rape Israeli women and girls? The fuck.

Agreed. In most areas of modern discourse there is no room for nuanced discussion, no room for a middle ground. It is black or white. Slaughter of innocent human beings is wrong. Killing in the name of religion is wrong. Rape is wrong. Antisemitism is wrong. Terrorism is wrong.

I wish there could be a peaceful two state solution to this unending nightmare.

But, alas, the old patriarchal religions are driving forces behind much of this. As long as people believe their gods are backing their atrocities, the warring will continue.

Tim refusenik in Israel gets sentenced to women’s prison for refusing to participate in genocide. Al Jazeera covers it.

It is so interesting to see the teaming on this issue.
