Quote:I asked Cat Tervens if she regrets her vote for Trump, and she responded:
Honestly, no. I’ve become extremely numb to the nonstop outrage and histri-
onics of the left, and I am happy that Trump delivered and focused on restor-
ing the rights of women and girls. He’s not perfect, and frankly, I don’t even
like the guy (I had serious TDS during his previous tenure), but he’s the only
one willing to do what needs to be done, and I’m willing to weather the other storms that come with him. My hope was that the Democrats would see what a losing issue this gender nonsense is. So far, I’ve only seen them continue to double down, and I feel like they won’t win another election so long as they prioritize pushing gender ideology. How could I vote for the party that denies the reality right before our eyes and not only gaslights us but tries to ruin our lives if we dare to try to encourage them to change course, no matter how
gently? The party that excuses the violence committed against us in countless ways so they can virtue signal and prioritize the feelings of men with auto-gynephilia above the needs of every woman and girl in the country (and abroad) is no party I can support. They get what they get at this point. After everything they’ve put me and many I care about through, I simply no longer care. Cope and seethe, you little tyrants (2025, Mar 2).

Lol. Per the analysis, she got cancelled by her friend group over some pronoun thing, then went hard right and voted Trump to punish them, which shows pretty clearly in her attitude. đŸ„Ž

I've been sitting here for a minute trying to think of what to say about this. Not really sure what I expected when I clicked into this to read it. 😆 I think it's important to understand the concrete reasons why people voted for him, but maybe this particular case wasn't that insightful—being a nasty, vengeful little troll is not exactly something that can be fixed by policy or platform changes. But as cathartic as it may be to think of them as "beyond help,” I prefer to hope that there is something that can be done to change minds...

Then again, given that she sounds like 75% of the people on Ovarit, maybe this is just how it is. In which case: we're doomed! đŸ«

I'm kind of in the same boat as Korebi in that I hoped to glean a little insight from the Trump voter. I did not lol.

"I don't regret it because I just don't pay attention and don't really care." Ugh, this one line infuriated me so much.

Yes, the left has a segment that exaggerates issues. But then... the Republcans? Really? What platform have they championed that wasn't emotionally charged craziness? Abortion is BABY MURDER. Gays can't get married because GOD HATES IT. Happy Holidays is a WAR ON CHRISTMAS. I can't get a job because of brown people! Let's Go Brandon! I DID THAT 👉!  LIBTARDS! OBAMA'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE. FREEDOM FRIES. GULF OF AMERICA. MASKS are SLAVERY!

Like please. PLEASE just take a second and look around. Every time the Democrats are in charge the Repubublicans are crying about the end of democracy. But it's okay when they do it because they don't touch on your personal pet topic?

You didn't want to vote for people that deny basic reality so you voted for Trump??? President "Sharpie a hurricane forecast" Trump??? The party of "if we delete the evidence for climate change it can't hurt us"

I can get the issues they had with the Democrats. What I can't understand is the pivot to "so I'll vote for Trump/the Republicans" as if they aren't 10x worse for all the same complaints.

I thought the Trump voter was possibly typical, based on my pre-election outreach. Prior to the election I spoke to a number of “swing” voters. She seemed fairly typical of the swing voters I spoke with, to be honest. Not in the specificity of her being cancelled by friends, of course. Most expressed rage at the Democrats’ inability to define “woman” and erasure more generally. Several mentioned that Democrats had failed to codify Roe. Many seemed to me to be single issue voters. I would add that most also minimized the risk of fascism. Several were former Democrats, which really broke my heart.

Looking forward, I am trying to figure out how we reach such women. If we can

My gut instinct is to think there is a gap between the red state and blue state women. Being in a red state has shielded me from any of the impacts of the trans nonsense. If I didn't go online, I would never run into it in real life.

But I do see the worst and most extreme that the Republicans have to offer. I know people who want to repeal gay marriage because they believe god is punishing us with the increase in major hurricanes for the past few years. But I can imagine that if you live where you get shielded from the actions of the right, it's easy to downplay it.

I still think the voters had too much laser focus on this one issue. Yes, I think having men in women's prisons is inhumane. And yes, I hate that every single time I vote I have to put my needs as a woman aside because nobody cares about us. I also hate defending the Democrats because I don't think very highly of them either.

I just struggle to wrap my head around it. At the very least, the conservative Supreme Court and likely conservative congress would have stopped the Democrats from pushing through too much. It was so much more dangerous to give the Republicans so much power. If Congress and the Supreme Court leaned left, I could at least see the tactical move of voting for a conservative president.

How to reach them... I don't know. I genuinely feel like I live in a separate universe from some people.

Sorry for sounding so flippant; I'm traveling right now without access to a keyboard, so my posts are gonna be shorter than they usually would be. 😅 I appreciate that you posted this, and I think especially because it matches your "boots on the ground" experience, I don't really have a choice but to accept that this is how it is, even though I don't like it.

It's not as if there's nothing to be gleaned from this, either. We can see that high-minded appeals such as protecting democracy, etc, are not going to work, because they don't give a single shit. Many seem to have become...or been shaped into...single-issue voters. But that's also kind of a good thing, because it means that if the party can regain sanity on the single issue, perhaps they can court these voters again. Idk, maybe I'm reaching a little, but...yeah just trying to make a more productive post instead of doomposting đŸ«

Sadly I feel that most of these "single-issue" women voters will need to experience the effects of their votes for Republicans in a personal and negative way before they will change their minds. That's been the case with every single Republican voter I've known personally. They will not extrapolate or empathize beyond their own personal experience when it comes to their own vote.

"Touching the hot stove to learn that it burns" is sadly a real thing and they won't change until they get burned.

I am cautiously optimistic. Maybe the Democratic Party can be salvaged. The relatively new organization DIAG (Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender) gives me some small hope. It is still small, but it is growing. They are showing that liberal voices within the party are speaking out about the gender woo that has captured the party. If it grows large enough, they may gain some influence.

If the party can be salvaged, maybe there’s a chance to salvage the mess we have. Maybe.
