I would try to quote, but on my phone it is just too difficult to do snippets. I agree that we need to have a blanket rule of no men in women’s spaces. Enforcement has been made difficult with the advent of fictitious IDs. But we still need protection. If a man has a fictitious sex on his ID, let him explain that to a judge.

The number of libfems and right wingers on Ovarit made in depth conversation difficult. There were those defending men scattered throughout the site. I had to laugh at @YesYourNigel’s comparison to a discussion about decapitation porn being derailed by a sex positivity libfem’s ice kink. That was masterful! You’re absolutely right. It is impossible to have an intelligent conversation when people keep trying to derail the thread with whataboutisms.

But here’s where I nearly snorted my drink out my nose:

“ whose main point of unity is that women are saintly motherly Madonnas except when it comes to those silly whipper-snapper kids who should shut up and always submit to their authority.”

This Ovarit user appeared in one of the new Discord servers yesterday. So your comment was especially humorous. 😂

@YesYourNigel i dont think i worded what I meant very well. I am definitely not saying to give males in the womens bathroom the benefit of the doubt. If someone in the womens bathroom is clearly male, women should be able to call them out and have support, regardless of what they're doing.

If someone in the womens bathroom is fairly androgynous looking and its hard to pinpoint if they're male or female, in that instance, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt unless they were doing anything weird because that's when women who don't present femininely enough or look too "masculine" (like being really tall) wind up getting harassed and i don't want women getting harassed for how they look.

Why would it be harassment to be asked if you belong in a female bathroom and to confirm it in some way?

I refuse to debate two obvious facts: 1. the patriarchy exists 2. and that's a bad thing

Because using the bathroom is a basic necessity. It creates an unnecessary barrier to something that all people need access to. It'd be like requiring a driver's license check every time you bought food or something. It's maybe a small annoyance to some, but as an example, I'm autistic and I'm more likely to ignore biological cues like hunger, or having to pee, if an interaction is required in order for me to get food or go to the bathroom. I will simply not eat or go to the bathroom if I'm unprepared for the interaction, starvation or kidney failure be damned.
When it comes to bathrooms, "just holding it" or trying to get through a confrontation (even a polite one) when you are in a hurry can be dangerous. There is a reasonable expectation of privacy in public bathrooms, as well, both socially and legally. It may not be a big deal if you're questioned once in a blue moon, but the more often it happens, the more someone might be dissuaded from bothering with public bathrooms at all. And the kinds of actual female people who are going to be questioned more and more as trans foments paranoia about this are going to fall along some very clear and otherwise marginalized lines, further restricting their ability to participate in public life.

But the same could be said for women in general who have to contend with the fact that it's now normal for men to be in their spaces. Most are not going to confront the man, they are simply going to be uncomfortable enough that they're going to try and avoid the spaces more and more. Even a basic thing like spending time outside is already impacted by safety concerns for women due to the amount of uncomfortable and unsafe interactions with men. Hell, I'd argue a big part of the tradwife/Stay at home stuff is fueled by women experiencing creepy male bosses and coworkers and not wanting to deal with that in such blatantly lopsided power environments.

And what about (also usually autistic) TIFs? Some of them pass very well but still don't want to use the men's for safety reasons. How do we ensure that they can without allowing anyone with facial hair in because they want to?
